  1. My brother's computer has been sending IM's and e-mail to people on his address/buddy list.

    He has no idea how this is happening (he is not very comp. savvy).

    I did a virus scan,disk cleanup,etc.,etc. and nothing seems to fix this.

    Now it's not happening alot, but every now and then.

    I was thinking about doing a total recovery, not sure if this will help.

    Norton is all working fine and there doesn't seem to be any problem there.

    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  2. someone has his im name and password, same with email...

    go in and change both passwords to different cryptic things no one can know...

    then see if this persists

  4. when ours did this it was a virus that had also disabled the scanning software. had to wipe the harddrive and reload everything.

    This. Change passwords for everything. Don't use anything similar and tell him to stop filling out shit online that isn't absolutely necessary. Also tell him that sites will NEVER ask for your password and if they do DO not give it to them. Only enter it in the password field when entering a site, if they have a problem with your password they will just have you set up a new one. NEVER EVER give out your password even if they say they are with the company/site you are trying to access.
