I'm in the market for a new laptop, and i hear people talking about how sweet the Macs are. I dont do much on my laptop other than play poker from time to time and surf the net. I dont need anything too high tech but these things to look sweet.
Any Mac users in OT that can tell me the pros and cons of these, and if you can play all the poker sites on a Mac.
Thanks

I'm a PC and I play poker.
If you run windows only programs you should be a PC too.
fwiw Macs are way overpriced. PM crownmycoke he just picked up a sweet 17" HP -
AHHAHAHA thats a great graph.

I have a Macbook and love it, but I wouldn't say it's optimal for poker playing.
I believe most (if not all) of the poker sites are now compatible with Macs, but you could probably find a much cheaper and bigger screen on an HP labtop that would be better for poker.
If it doesn't have to be a labtop, the iMac (Mac desktop) has a nice screen, and is very convenient for storage. The CPU on an iMac is all built into the monitor/screen, so there is no separate unit to take up space below your desk/entertainment center/whatever. -
Let's see...where to start
I used and swore by PC's for the first 23 years of my life until I got tired of using an operating system that gets worse and worse as updates roll in. I also got tired of shittily made components that break easily.
The idea that you need a Windows PC these days because you cant get programs for Apple's is so far fetched and last decade. I can get pretty much any program I want for my Apple and in the off chance that it isn't available, I can use parallels to run it.
My main beef with PC manufacturers other than installing Windows is that most of them make their products without durability in mind at all. I have 4 laptops under my bed that all have developed problems merely as a result of everyday use and wear and tear. These 4 laptops were all bought within 3 years of eachother and not one lasted over a year without anything annoying as hell happening to them. Other than the physical defects, it's obvious that viruses run rampant on Windows systems.
Now onto the joys of owning a Mac and the misconceptions that many stubborn people seem to have about them.
Even if you have NEVER used an Apple product before, anybody who has used Windows will find OS X incredibly intuitive and easy to pickup. Windows fans love to forget the fact that Bill Gates pretty much stole the entire GUI that Jobs and Apple created...most of the shortcuts are the same, lots of process steps are identical...it's just that Apple's do everything much better and more reliably.
In terms of the durability, I have had my Macbook for 2 years without ANY major problems. People want to talk about Mac's being a rip off but I have easily saved money by simply spending more on a product that will last longer and run better than any PC.
If you are into the creative sort of stuff like video/music editing then Mac's are clearly superior and no explanation is really needed. For productivity, you can buy pretty much any program (yes even Office) and use it just like you would on a PC.
Bottom line is that I can guarantee you wont regret paying a little bit extra to own an Apple. Again, this is coming from someone who has owned over a dozen Windows based systems in the last 10 years so if anyone should be committed to one OS, it was me...it's not like I am biased or anything. I just took a chance and tried the alternative and will probably never go back. -
I prolly wouldn't buy a Mac based upon the little you posted. I just recently purchased my first Mac. I like it, but I still run into problems where it isn't compatible with certain things and it can cause some hassle. This is mostly because I chose not to put Windows on my Mac, afterall this is one of the reasons for having a Mac, that you don't have to deal with Windows.

These two paragraphs are gold, and are the main two reasons why I love Macs.

The main reason i asked about Mac is because i finally got enough points to get a Sony Vaio with my points on UB. When i went to get it i noticed that they had added Macs to the store, and in a month or so would probably have enough to get one.
I just wanted to weigh my options..thanks for all the input

My g/f had terrible luck with her Sony Vaio. If I, personally, had to choose between a Mac and a Vaio, I'd choose the Macbook all day. JMO.

FTR, after messing around with my Macbook, my g/f bought the iMac and loves it.
