So you're starting a team that will play for one year and one year only. rank the order you'd rank the QB's on your draft board.
Edited By: dolphin13 Oct 26th, 2010 at 04:31 AM
We'll wipe the fractured ankle for Favre and fractured clavicle for Romo from existence because it would be a shame and sham to have rankings without the two most polarizing quarterbacks
I'm too lazy to find a link to the thread I started about this last year around this time. What's your list???
1. Peyton Manning (no brainer)
2. Tom Brady (He's purty good)
3. Phillip Rivers (Best pure QB but doesn't have Manning or Brady's brains)
4. Drew Brees (I don't care that he has 10 interceptions. Gotta be an anomaly)
5. Aaron Rodgers (tough year so far but no RB and missing Findley has really hurt him. he's pressing a lot more)
6. Matt Schaub (Probably the most underrated QB. Maybe it's cuz Johnson is a beast)
7. Matt Ryan (Love his arm, so much potential. Can't believe I actually saw people writing him off on here after week 1)
8. Ben Rapistburger (fuck him tho)
9. Eli Manning (I know the hate will start big time with this one but I just think he's a very good QB and an elite one at times)
10. Tony Romo (this is where the drop off starts. Sometimes he's a stud, sometime he's gonna Romo)
11. Carson Palmer (An enigma. Is he good? Does he suck? He's running out of time to prove he's a top QB)
12. Joe Flaco (His numbers should be a lot better with the defense they have and the addition of Boldin)
13. Kyle Orton (Did I just put down Kyle Orton as the 13th best QB in the NFL? Why yes I did)
14. Vince Young (I like what he did last year in that run and he looked very good (sans the Pitt game) this year until getting inuured
15. Donovan McNabb (I kind of want to move up a few spots but I don't know why I cant.
16. Matt Cassel (Looks like this will be his second breakout year)
17. Jay Cutler (Being in Chi. but not being a Bears fan gives me a good perspective. This cats head is messed up. should be top 7
18. Mark Sanchez (I hate to admit that I actually think he'll be a very good QB one day)
19. Chad Henne (Both Sanchez and Henne have shown me more than Kevin Kolb)
20. Ryan Fitzpatrick (He's been the best QB in the NFL since Week 3. Show me a little more and you can move up.)
Rankings from here on out were given about two seconds of thought
21. Kevin Kolb/Michael Vick (I just can't put either of these higher because I haven't seen enough. They both have shown top 10 potential)
22. Brett Favre (stats may be awful, can die from old age on any snap but he's still fun to watch and can be top three on any given drive)
23. Sam Bradford
24. David Garrard
25. Josh Freeman
26. Seneca Wallace
27. Max Hall
28. Shaun Hill (Matthew Stafford would prolly be around 22 right now but obv. has high ceiling for future)
29. Alex Smith
30. Matt Hasselbeck
31. Jason Campbell/Bruce Gradkowski
32. Matt Moore/Jimmy Clausen
479. Jamarcus Russell -
1. PM
2. Brees( pretty sure he wouldnt fight with the star receiver about his beard)
3. Brady
4. you have a lot more time on your hands than I do -
haaaa. baby and wife are sleeping. although it's just about time to feed little dolphin

I understand that Hasselbeck is not a top tier or even middle tier QB but why Alex Smith is ranked higher is a damn joke!

I def agree w/ this -
Manning
Brady
Rivers
Rothlisberger
Rodgers
Brees
Mcnabb
Flacco
Emanning
Schaub -
Not sure he will be a no brainer #1 in 2 years but he will be way up there. I was just telling a buddy of mine that of all the young QBs in the league he would be the one I would most like to see in a Vikes uniform.

that being said, this is a fun topic so I'm gonna do a top 10 anyway (assuming a decent offensive line)
1. Peyton Manning
2. Tom Brady
3. Drew Brees
4. Phil Rivers
5. Aaron Rodgers
6. The Rapist
7. Matt Schaub
8. Michael Vick
9. Kyle Orton
10. Tony Romo
lol @ Carson Palmer being in the top 15 QBs in the league. He's fucking awful.
Matt Ryan's been decent (18th in DVOA) but I don't trust him and think he's generally overrated because of his big first year.
Eli continues to be the most overrated player in the NFL (19th so far this year in DVOA) although Joe Flacco is starting to give him a run for his money. -
so Orton has like 5 good games and now he's better than Eli. CMONNNN

Edited By: FenwayKing Oct 26th, 2010 at 07:34 AMmeh I was a bit hasty in doing these rankings and probably overrated him because of how well he's played this year and last (he IS #2 in the league in DVOA before this week's games)Originally Posted by AMARTIN1181

I should prob move Orton out, move Romo up a spot and Ryan goes to #10
eli is so overrated I cant breathe (solid 19th in DVOA so far this year and has never finished in the top 5 in his career, prob best of 8th or 9th iirc)...rangz tho but yea I'd much rather have any of those 10 QBs as my QB for this year. Manning would be 11th or 12th and tbh, I'd probably take Orton at this point over him*
*I freely admit that my hatred for how overrated Eli Manning is may lead me to underrate him by a spot or two but that's it. There's no way he even sniffs top 8 in this league -
I'm not ranking them all right now but one thing is certain looking at y'all rankings, and that's Ben being too low pretty much across the board.

Just like baseball stats, DVOA and other advanced football stats help reinforce common knowledge for most players but also help point out players who tend to be overrated/underrated due to their name/things they've done in the past/may be benefiting form weak schedules or out external elements, etc.
What's your eyeball top 6 QBs? Probably Peyton, Brady, Brees, Rivers, Rodgers, and Roethlisberger in some order.
What's the top 6 DVOA QBs? Brady, Orton, Peyton, Brees, Rivers, Rodgers (Roethlisberger has only played 2 games obv so the sample size isn't large enough yet although his first two games have been pretty stellar)
DVOA is not just some crock of bullshit stat. It helps for breaking down players especially in the middle and lower tiers. Hardly anyone's going to argue that top 5. 6-20 on the other hand is a lot tougher and DVOA from year-to-year provides a lot of great insight into that.
But if you're a certified sports stat hater like yourself, I guess this is a pointless post. But people who hate stats tend to forget that we also watch the games, we just choose to use stats to help back up our opinions so it's not based on just selective memory/favorable matchups, etc.
Sigh, we're never going to agree on this though I guess, whether it's baseball or football. -
It works in baseball because it's a very individual sport. Who are your receivers? Who are your running backs? What's the offensive line like? What is the defense like? What kind of scheme are they running? Who are the coaches? Etc. etc. Stats like DVOA in football are meaningless to me.
