If it's good weather, Frying Pan is pretty cool (all outdoors), went there last thursday night, was packed at 8:30, so get there early to get a table. Very good burgers & fries too.

pm sangwich. he lived there for like 2 or 3 years or something.

Not exactly the best bar crowd but for something different (German food) and the opportunity to drink beer from a giant glass boot (order the house beer, Weiss) this is a pretty cool place. Order the Weiner Schnitzel (butchered spelling I'm sure) with the eggs and anchovies, crazy good.
If it's open ask to sit in the beer garden, as it gets a young crowd.

in the city i'd recommend any bar at 52nd and 2nd...theres like 20 of them over there, most of them don't charge a cover but are pretty nice..it's usually poppin over there
if you haven't been to little italy, that's a must too...soho, grenetch(sp?) village, and chinatown are all down over there also...it's a lot of fun just walking around there and there's some cool parks down there also to walk around..there are always people putting on fun shows over there..
i don't go to the city a TON, but these are my recommendations -

The East Village/LES has some nice places to check out....beer gardens, sports/hookah bars/lounges all in that area.
If you're in that area, check out Spitzers, great place to go for a beer, try the delirium tremens. It's off the hook.
And definitely do go to KAtz delicatessen, and get the pastrami sammich. You wont regret it.
Other places you might want to check out......
Off the wagon (beer pong, good college crowd)
As mentioned..Frying Pan
St. Marks (bunch of japanese restaurants)
Lombardis or RAy's Pizza on Prince St.
Shake Shack for a good burger. -
wow, with the exception of Ray's, pretty much spot on in all areas. Well done.
