A few weeks ago I sent out some letters. I did so out of frustration, and the need to vent. Here is the original post; <A title=VENT href="http://www.pocketfives.com/poker-forums/13/Letter-Sent-To-Rep_2F00_Senators--_2800_Political-of-course_21002900_-4010479/p/4010479#4010479" >VENT

Today I got this back:
Dear Ms. D........
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s recent visit to the United States.
Prime Minister Brown’s visit on March 3, 2009 was the first official visit by a European leader to the White House. The visit was centered on the U.S. and the United Kingdom’s partnership in addressing the global economy and crafting a strategy in Afghanistan. As we seek to reach out to the international community, the strength of the Anglo-American relationship will continue to be an invaluable asset in our diplomatic efforts.
Thank you for also sharing your thoughts regarding funding for humanitarian assistance in Gaza.
To help develop a sustainable peace in the region, the U.S. must direct leadership efforts towards a political rather than a military solution. There are 1.5 million civilians in Gaza who face a deteriorating humanitarian crisis. The U.S. funding will be directed through the Palestinian Authority and through international agencies to address critical humanitarian, budgetary, security, and infrastructure needs. None of the funding will be directed through Hamas.
The suffering of the Palestinian people must not be exploited by Hamas to create instability and terrorist tendencies among the population. By providing this much-needed assistance, we will help to assure Palestinians of our intent to help and foster conditions in which a political solution can be reached. A peaceful and prosperous Palestine is in the best interest of the region's future and our national security.
I appreciate your concerns regarding this matter. When this funding initiative comes before the Senate, I will certainly keep your views in mind.
Thank you again for writing me.
Sincerely,
Sherrod Brown -

I bet he didn't write that response. It was probably some undergrad intern. -
Couldn't agree more, on all points.

This is great. I wonder if the lackey staffer who wrote this has any idea how much US aid Arafat and his cronies stole and have safely tucked away in swiss bank accounts?? Furthermore, we only like democracy/republicanism when it suits us. Nevermind that Hamas was elected democratically; nevermind that the reason they were elected was b/c the PNA and Arafat stole the money intended for humanitarian and infrastructure necessities and that Hamas was providing medical care and feeding the thousands of refugees in Gaza. No question that Hamas is a terrorist organization, and i would never justify aid going directly to them, but to think that the PNA is better suited to recieve and distribute our aid is naive. In the immortal words of a Reagan staffer, "he's a son of a bitch, but he's our son of a bitch."

We give money to sons of bitches that aren't even our sons of bitches.
