  1. She did redeem herself by saying "If we ever send somebody to the sun they will have to go at night time"
  2. Obviously by math the x billion answer is the farthest off percentage wise, but that's ok. I assume that answer translates to the same answer as "fucking far away."

9450 miles? I'm 9450 miles away from most of you clowns right now. That answer is atrocious.

24lbs is pretty lol but I imagine if you survey a lot of people you'll get a lot of answers that are significantly below the real answer.

9450 is the worst answer by a mile. Ok, by a lot of miles.
  3. My girlfriend said 30k miles and 200 pounds.

Then she said 9k miles was the worst answer. I said you do realize your guess was only slightly 3times as far.and said how 3.3 billion is not even fathomable as a distance that could be traveled. "oh he said billion? but they were drunk right"

Claims 3.3 billion is a more excusable drunk answer and 9450 miles and 24lbs seem like thought was put in.

My answer is 3.3 billion. If he said 33 million it would be a closer race of dumb answers but this is 100 times worse literally.
  4. love this thread. i keep on switching my answer since with any quick thought or comparison you quickly dismiss them as ridiculous. can't decide on any being worse than the others.
  5. 3.3 billion is easily the stupidest, although 10k is also pretty hilarious. fun game.

  6. would go with 9450>24lbs>3.3 bil. all of them looooooooooooooooool however
     1
  7. 24lb slightly worse than 9k miles.

ugh, actually, it may be a dead heat.

  8. how does 3.3 billion miles not win? that's not even a realistic distance. we're 93 million away from the sun and that's just about common knowledge.
  9. Wish i could hang out with you gents, im needing the intellectual confidence boost these days

and the but i dont fish reasoning is the same as excusing 3.3 billion miles because "im not an astronaut"

it's apparently not as common knowledge as we think, according to waco...

I gotta go with Crawford, without any doubt whatsoever.

3.3b is a brutal fucking answer. But space is massive, like so big at such scale, we cannot really ever get our heads around it. And so any huge fucking guess that is orders of magnitude wrong, could at least be excused by the vast nature of space. 3.3 trillion, 100 billion, 450 million. In a general sense, all of those are pretty much equally horrific.

But 9-10k? I mean, fuck me, wow. That is, idk, there is no excuse. Because for the really realllllllly big, we don't have any frame of reference. For the small, we do. Earth, reality, getting my oil changed every 3k miles, running on the treadmill a few miles a day, throwing a coin into the grand canyon, flying in an airplane for several hours at several hundred miles an hour, blah blah...All of those should give you at least some experiential clue as to 9k being woefully wrong.

So, both are bad, but 9k is streets worse, imo.

everyone knows the moon is a looooong fucking way away, so to answer several billion, while retarded, is obv much less retarded than saying the distance is one that can be traveled in 1 day on an airplane.

    this...
fish answer is worst tho. i know nothing about fishing but know thats awful... can see the 3.3bil answer if you know nothing about space or distances. obv completely ignorant but not as 'cmon think about that for a sec' ignorant.

However, I think I have to go with the 9450. I feel like you should have a much better grasp, even as a dumbfuck, of how far this is. 3.3 billion is fucktarded as just about anything, but I can see being like "omg its really far, I don't know much about outerspace) and just losing your goddamn mind for a few seconds. for the 9450, however, I cannot fathom a way that this could be a guess. It honestly makes me angry and sad at the same time that this person was allowed to live past birth.

    lol Neeek wins.
  14. Hahahaha Neek. I concede, you guys are right...9450 is the worst.
  15. Flatmate- 200'000miles and 300lbs
Fiance- yea around that^ and 150kgs

    Head fucking explode.

I ask her what a planet is.
    Idk. Head explode.
Do you know what mars is?
    Yes a planet.
Do u know where Mars is?
I have no idea. Head explode.

My girlfriend doesn't know which is closer, the moon or the sun. Good fucking god.

    This was a great response.

To be fair to your girl tho,

I'm three weeks into a physics course, and we are still stuck on the question we started with...

Does the earth revolve around the sun, or vice versa? Answering it definitively will take nearly half the course...

what are the arguments for the sun revolving around the earth? i'm genuinely curious

its all just a rehash of the major cosmological systems...aristarchus/aristotle/ptolemy/brahe/copernicus/galileo/newton

And the basic argument is: humans are an egotistical breed and we feel that we are supppppppper special and this entire huge cosmos just HAD to be designed and made only and specifically for us

So, naturally, all celestial bodies revolve around us, too. And then you fuck with the data by adding equants and deferents and all kinds of little manipulations into the system so that the story it tells fits the worldview that you espouse.

Kind of like the physics version of "America...Fuck Yeah!"

    "Human species....Fuck Yeah!"

The 93 million is not common knowledge. If you surveyed American college graduates, less than 5 percent would guess within 5 percent of that number.
  20. 24lb fish is BAD!
  21. My wife said 1 million miles and 500 pounds
  22. id say 24lbs is the worst...some people are just clueless about astronomy, but 24lbs for a fish?...its v close though...9450 is 2nd worst imo
  23. 1) 3.3 - You would have to think a rocket flies at like 10 million miles per hour in order to reach the moon
    2) 24 - You should be able to relate the size of a small dog to the possibility of fish existing that is larger than a dog
    3) 9,450 - At least it's fathomable because we reach the moon

  24. Old gf said:

100k miles, 300 lbs, then she said "wait, no 20k miles" LOLZ

    a keeper.

I am going to quiz my wife in a sec. Im praying she doesnt mimic deoxyribos girl.

EDIT: Phew, she said 200lbs and 400k. Not bad.

  26. I initially thought 3.3 billion but now not sure. idk if it is more ridiculous to guess we can get to the moon in a day by plane or never get to the moon. I actually lol'd at 3.3b.

24 pound fish is badddd but I don't think it's as bad as the other guesses.

    I guessed 400K and 200.

Reason: Switching it the 9k answer after reading all the responses. I could never defend any of them tho.
  27. Fwiw we asked her mom and she didn't answer much better.

At least it's not her and it runs in the family.

More I think about it, more the 24lb fish is most reasonable and 9500 miles least reasonable.

Most people think freshwater fish and think betas and goldfish and shit.

3.3 billion miles, like yea it's far but we've been there do that's pretty bad.

But 9500 miles... That means Ur car has prolly driven to the moon and back..... What? Like that's gotta be the worst.

  28. Asked my girl last night and she said 250k miles to moon and 150lbs fish... was super suprised at first than was like awww shit you're not smarter than I thought you were.
  29. I just asked my wife the 3 questions.

    Her guesses:

    2.6 million people in california
1 trillion miles to the moon
23 lbs biggest freshwater fish caught

    Jeez
  30. Loooool awesome

Doesn't LA itself have almost 2million people?
And wow a trillion. A thousand billions. Wow
