By the time you pay off that 150k 20 years later, you have gone thru 3 or 4 jobs and most likely are not even using that retarded fn major you studied. This studying is necessary because you had to to achieve a 3.5 or greater gpa in order to keep your grants and not get kicked out of school.

with In State colleges....you pay off that 40k in 5 years and 5 years later buy a new house with your new wife who has a baby on the way. On sunday's you can afford your 18 holes of 100 golf with your frat buddies and chatter fondly about the girls, with no leg hair mind you, that would come over from your favorite sororiety every monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday and saturday night. Sunday's were of course their day for mourning and your day to go thru all the test files in order to cram for your tests that week.

Half of college graduates are un or underemployed. Good luck paying that loan off in 5 years lawlz.

I understand that this varies widely state to state, but I agree with this statement. I went to Carolina not because it was my top choice, but because it was a great school for low in state tuition cost. My older sister was attending a private school that was much more expensive and I knew my parents money was stretched thin. I also had no idea what I wanted to study.

Part of the decision was the fact that I was awarded a fellowship that paid for almost everything for my first two years. I ended up dropping out of the program after my sophomore year, and picked up 2 jobs and was able to put myself through the rest of the way and graduated with no debt. Occasionally i would be dead broke and would have to ask my parents for a few bucks, but covering 90%+ of all of my costs by working part time was not that hard. I graduated in 5 yrs, but thats only because I took a full year off to go abroad. Found a job doing that as well, didnt go through a university program -- so it didn't cost me anything and I got independent study credits for the studying/language acquisition I did over there.

I am very thankful I graduated without loans to pay, and I think being realistic in your college planning in this day and age is very wise.

That said, I know nothing about in state costs for other states, but I'd imagine at least some states are similar to NC.
