So this I dont get. Did Mike Sullivan just forget that the assassin/photographer was after him and knew they were headed to the beach house? Did he think the guy was no longer after him since the Irish mob boss (Newman) was dead? I dont remember anywhere in the movie that he knew who hired the killer. Why would he think a man who hed injured in the process of trying to kill him (sullivan) would just give up the chase? I realize its a movie but its a Tom Hanks movie. It seems odd that his character is wary enough to recognize the photographer as an assassin in the diner and yet he carelessly lets himself get shot in the back walking into an eerily empty house where he knew the assassin knew he was headed to. Maybe Im missing something. Weak ending imo.

This is one of my favorite movies, highly underrated. I havent seen it in a few years, but I dont remember where Hanks character knowing that the assasin knew where he was heading. I remember he was at the sister in laws house at one point and gets the phone call traced to find out where he is, but thats all I remember. Remind what part you are referring too.

when they were in the diner or maybe before they got there he and his son were talking about going to his(the boy's) aunt's house and the boy remembered a dog there from when he was really young. after they escaped the killer/photographer at the diner, mike sullivan told his son that they couldnt go there anymore because the guy would know thats where they were headed. then they ended up there in the end and sure enough there was a dog that the boy remembered and pointed it out to his dad.

I would guess that once he killed the old man, that maybe he thought they were safe. That the killer wouldnt bother anymore, considering he wasnt going to get paid for the hit. I dont know to be honest, never really thought about it that deeply.

I thought he intentionally went there to let the killer get him so his son would be safe. It's been awhile since I saw the movie and I'll have to watch it again because I love it. I could be way off here but that's the way I remember it. I could also be remembering the ending to a completely different movie :/

One of my favorites, but yeah, I am forgetting key parts... I thought something similar though, as Randinho, if I remember correctly.
www.imdb.com sould have something on it -
pretty sure the hitman(jude law people hes famous) was PAID to do job ahead of time and guy seemed obsessive to finish it. remember the Stanley Tucci guy hires him. he writes the little hangman thing on the kid even though the paul newman character was like dont kill the kid.
