President Obama whispered to a top fundraiser this week that he believes GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney wants to name Gen. David Petraeus to the VP slot!

"The president wasn't joking," the insider explains to the DRUDGE REPORT.

A Petraeus drama has been quietly building behind the scenes.

Romney is believed to have secretly met with the four-star general in New Hampshire.

    thoughts?

    juan time!
  2. Wasn't Drudge reporting Condi Rice for VP a week or so ago?

    Will wait for credible sources.
  3. Who the hell is that? Shouldn't he hold out for a 5 star general?

    Is he white at least?
  4. white, 5-star generals are political gold Jerry, gold!

oh yeah, this weekend jamie gold was playing poker in the casino I've been playing 1/2 at, I didn't ask the details. I did hear he ate no blueberries.

  8. ?

I mean if you are choosing a running mate for President of the United States, and you are going with a military man, why would you settle for a 4 star? Maybe the guy is a great speaker or has some other qualities, but I'm sure you could find that in a 5 star general too.
  9. Listen to this: Seven...Star...General.
  10. pretty brilliant move considering the President won't bash him or his credentials
  11. why not a vice-admiral?

Nope that's it, I'm not going to be the one getting leveled here.

That's good. Unless, of course, somebody comes up with an 8 Star General. Then you're in trouble, huh?

  15. Petraeus is the man. Seriously.
  16. the question shouldn't be about who Mittens picks to run as his VP but will anyone of any stature at all actually accept the offer

Who goes to Santiago, Chile twice in one year?
  18. over under on how many times ncj refreshes OT and Drudge throughout the day?
  19. I hope he has a better vetting process than McCain did.
  20. no point picking a General in a time of troop drawdown and overall dissatisfaction with foreign policy/ wars. i could see this being a good play in 2008 instead of slutmom, but this is too late.
  21. Do we know if Petraeus is interested? I know that Schwarzkopf and Powell were wanted for running mates but neither was selected.

  22. Who was the last Five Star? Was it Ike? Nope . . . Omar Bradley

  23. i woulda guessed schwarzkopf but he was only a 4 as well
  24. John Pershing was general of the armies which is higher than a 5 star general

Patraeus is too smart to want a career in politics. No way he wants to be VP, especially for a losing candidate

  25. How does the different star ranking and higher rankings like being a general of the armies work?

Is there a set ladder to climb things you need to do achieve or does it come down to you doing something good acting as general and then the president would like you to pay you back for that so he sends a medal and a note and boom level up 4 star to 5 star general?
  26. i think you need to be a GOP nut hugger and have a minimum of 38k posts on an internet forum to become 5 stars - could be other criteria as well
  27. Pershing was made General of the Armies so he would outrank generals from foreign countries during WW1 or something like that. The only other GOTA was George Washington but Congress awarded him that rank way after he died so that Pershing wouldnt outrank him. Was Omar Bradley a 5 star? I didnt know that. What about Eisenhower? Oh, I think Ulysses Grant was a 5 star too?
