Yall musta forgot!!
Gonna make the hardcore MMA fans and MMA in general look bad if Silva goes thru with this boxing match, so he can get schooled by a 40 year old Roy Jones Jr (best p4p boxer ever imo). Hopefully Silva backs out and saves his and MMAs rep a little. -
If it is a boxing match I agree. MMA forget about it.
-
link or are you just talking out of your ass like always?
-
Boxing is rigged. Not worth watching.
-
actually, anybody that knows a wee bit about MMA could find MULTIPLE links about A. Silva expressing great interest in boxing Roy Jones Jr after his UFC contract runs out, he has all but guaranteed it will happen, but since you need links.....
http://www.fightline.com/news/mma/20...va/index.shtml
http://fiveouncesofpain.com/2009/07/...-roy-jones-jr/
so many more links if u took 5 secs of time on google instead of insulting me....
btw, I heard Roy Jones dont like whiteboi's, good way to backout Anderson, PM waco ;P -
Roy Jones wouldnt be in the top 20 pound for pound boxers of all time.
-
RJJ beats him in a boxing match. But the stuff you wrote in bold is complete and utter bullshit. He is not even close to being the best P4P fighter. Go learn about guys like Sugar Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong, Roberto Duran, Harry Greb, Joe Louis, Muhammed Ali, Willie Pep and Sugar Ray Leonard and then come back and talk boxing.
-
most named are eitehr a) so long ago, u never really watched em, just going off what granddaddy says or b) more myth then truth imo

from the boxers ive seen and watched in my lifetime, nobody has dominated like RJJ, in his prime he was simply unbeatable, untouchable almost, it was ridiculous, he toyed with ppl almost every fight and never had a real fight for many years til Tarver stepped up, to say he isnt a top ever is a joke IMO, i can understand saying not best ever, thats very opinionated, but he is most def an all time great. -
Necro, how long have you been watching boxing? Do you have any point of reference to some of the guys I mentioned in my earlier thread? He did dominate the 160 lbs. division (though he never fough Gerald McClellean) , but after he got the lucrative HBO deal, he fought tomato can after tomato can while looking like a world beater. He narrowly outpointed a very raw Hopkins early on in their careers, but I would even put Bernard above RJJ on an all time P4P list based on his longevity, superior strength of competition.
-
He was a great boxer but nowhere near the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, Julio Cesar chavez, Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray robinson etc.
-
God, you are an idiot. I have tons of tapes on all those fighters not to mention that there is a lot of footage available to everyone on youtube these days.

So, every single person who is an authority on boxing that places the guys I mentioned over RJJ (and 100% of them do) are all wrong and you are right on this issue simply because you say so?
GFY moron. Pretend you are a 6'7" Haitian ball player or something. -
Itquick knows the score.

lol hopkins is a LEGEND and older then Roy, Roy beat him with an injured right hand, using almost exclusively the left the entire fight... and yes, im 30 and have been watching boxing since i was about 5 or 6 in Haiti, but i didnt really get to follow it all the time til moving to Canada, but i was around for say... the Tyson era and beyond, and have never seen a fighter like Roy, Ive seen Duran (not even close to RJJ imo, insulting comparison he would tool him) and Sugar Ray (he is like RJJ, except with half the KO power, again, i think he would be tooled, prime vs prime).

To say he fought nobody is bull, he just embarrassed everybody he fought, there was nobody he was ducking, ever. It sucks to be in an era you are so much better then everybody there is no real rivalry. I know alot of those old school guys werent half as skilled and fought way more "cans" then ppl even today do, boxing was more corrupt back then, then it is now (but it's still a joke) and alot of the wins the real old timers got were backbarn fighting morons. -
If RJJ beat AS in a boxing match, it would do nothing to the image of mma. Now if he beat him in a mma match, then we'd have something to talk about.
-
getting all personal doesnt prove your point, just proves your an emo raging net goof cuz i said RJJ is the best.... can you prove he isnt?? who is this "everybody" u speak of... lol i know plently of ppl that would put RJJ in the "all time great" category, he dominated an era.

Sugar Ray was a points kinda boxer, like Mayweather, Roy can play that game, except he can KO you in the 1st round too, seriously, he would TOOL sugar ray so bad, and u putting him below like its obv, cuz sugar is overhyped in the media, soft hitting, smart boxer, late round flurries, so many close fights.... Roy DEMOLISHES AND EMBARRASSES ppl, constantly, even at 40 he just won another title, and now he is gonna embarrass the best p4p MMA fighter in the world.
Why out of all ppl, does Anderson Silva want RJJ, i mean he can fight ANYBODY in the world for big $.... he knows RJJ is a legend, that's why, clown. -
Sigh. Since I cannot convince a complete moron with mere words, here are some visuals for you:

Joe Calzaghe dominated the super middlewight division for ten years.
Ended his career unbeaten (with a win against Jones, let us not forget).....
But he'll never be remembered as a 'great' cause so many of his opponents were bums. -
ahh so all the boxers u named were undefeated?? all of them never hung on past their primes either?? ahhh what a good point you make!! (if there was a point to it at all).

OP, Why exactly would it matter to "Hardcore MMA Fans and MMA In General" if Silva lost a boxing match? I don't exactly understand how that would actually relate to MMA at all, unless they were to do something that wasn't just boxing. It ceases to amaze me how Boxing Fans continue to attempt to put down MMA but do so in the most unsubstantiated ways.

At least, I am not a 5'2 white geek pretending to be a 6'7" Canadian-Haitian( or whatever the fuck he might be) basketball player. Please go beat off to Wyclef Jean or something instead of polluting this board with your crap.

And here is a list voted on by pretty much anyone relevant in boxing in 2002 (which was RJJ's prime and the apex of his career). Almost any credible list you will see is going to be pretty similar and rank RJJ way down the line.
In 2002, the writers of Ring Magazine published a ranking of the 80 best fighters of the previous 80 years. no, its silva clearly underestimating boxing, thinking he can just go in with a legend like its nothing, no boxer thinks he can go into MMA and do the same thing.... it's the MMA fans that look down on boxing actually, i love both sports, i think theres room for both of them, and i love to see dumb fucks like Big Tim think they can step in the boxing ring with even washed up boxers and get KTFO embarrassingly.

Evander Holyfield number 22?
WTF -
seriously, this list should matter cuz a magazine made it?? lol anybody from even the bottom (oscar and mike for example) would be top 10 to other ppl.... rating the best is a hard thing to do, but if your on that list, your a legend, and its debatable at best where you belong. lol @ you thinking a magazine article and a couple losses prove anything.

Lists like that are also about the body of work, not boxers in their prime, again, RJJ had more skill then anybody you named in his prime, he has hung around far too long and lost to some ppl that couldnt wear his jock before and has some battles with guys that would drop in 1st round before (like his last fight). Hell, ill say Roy would tool Whitaker another boxer i love, two p4p kings imo, but Whitaker is top 15 and roy is 40 sometihng? lol Holyfield top 25 eveR? LOL -
When Tarver KTFO RJJ, nuthuggers like you thought he was in his prime and unbeatable. Once he got his narrow kicked twice in a row, dicksucks like you started playing the "he was past his prime" bullshit. How convenient.

I am done schooling your ignorant ass. If you are willing to listen and learn, let me know and I can try to educate you on boxing. Until then ,GFY. -
dude, your idea of "boxing education" is insulting me, and finding some list from a magazine that is questionable at best and presenting it like its a fact lol my idea of boxing education would be boxing you in the face.

Itquick knows his stuff when it comes to boxing. He seems very knowledgeable on the subject whenever a boxing thread appears.
-
The fact that you think The Ring Magazine is questionable at best shows how little you know about boxing. Why don't you do this, google all time P4P lists that have been compiled through polling boxers, trainers, boxing writers (i.e. people who have made the sweet science their profession). Not lists based on a single person's opinion. And then tell me how many of those have RJJ even in the top ten.
