"....I will not put the financial burden on the backs of the middle class...."

no, he wont... he'll put it on the hard working, successful Americans who already contribute over 35% in taxes

  4. congrats on the HelenRNurse/Amymarie/Echelon-esque thread title.

i find it interesting that your change from dem to anti-dem coincides with your change from rational to believing in the indigo child's exploits on Mars :).

I'm also anti-Repub if that helps! Also, I really don't believe in the Indigo Child and his exploits on Mars.

As for the thread title...I'm not really sure what else this press conference is other than Obama trying to convince people that his idea for health care reform is the way to go. He's pitching his product.

  6. Oh I see now. Raising taxes is "money in your pockets". And the way to keep the deficit down is to spend more.

    Makes sense to me.

Obama is losing the battle to get his bill passed and is trying to get on TV and make it all sound rosey. He knows if he doesnt get this passed before the August break, that all of the congressman will hear from their constituencies on this matter. Also, more Americans will read the bill and see all the BS and red tape when the government is involved.

damnit mariner, you were supposed to get all upset at my stupid remarks . . . its much more fun that way.
  10. the real pathetic part of this plan, FOR ME, is that I really would like to see some changes in health care and especially as it relates to insurance. Running a business with over 200 employees, I get ass-raped every year with premium increase etc....

HOWEVER: I DO NOT SUPPORT TAXING THE "WEALTHY" to accomplish this.
    find another way

mariner and I might disagree about Obama but he is spot on with this. Obama is absolutely making his case and trying to sell his plan and there's nothing wrong with the thread title.

Actually, I think you're wrong about this. They will get this done. They'll use reconciliation if they have to and pass it with 50 votes plus Joe Biden. But I don't think they will even have to do that. Republicans are already coming on board, like Susan Collins. Olympia Snowe can't be far behind. It's going to happen.
  13. What we've done has reduced government spending by 2.2 trillion.

Right after he said that under his plan the deficit will more than triple under his 10 year plan.

    This is pathetic.
  14. Sick spin saying hes cutting federal spending over the next 10 years by 2.2 trillion.

  16. underdog, i've seen that you like me are pro-choice. But you don't feel at all dirty knowing that you are forcing people who are inherently against abortion to pay for it? to force someone to pay for something they feel so strongly against seems like the worst form of crime to fellow man i can think of other than taking their life. Have you no respect for others?

I thought the invasion of Iraq was morally wrong. My tax dollars paid for it. In response, I donated large sums of money to make sure the people responsible for making that decision wouldn't be able to make any more decisions.

But, yeah, I see your point. I don't like the situation at all and I don't see a good solution. Abortion sucks and I wish no one ever felt the need to have one.

I honestly doubt the yearly deficit will be as high as it has over the past 8 years.
