Which fight are you going to watch?
The Affliction card is stacked with top heavyweights and who doesn't want to see Fedor? Top to bottom, the Affliction card destroys the UFC card, but the UFC card is free and Affliction is on PPV.
Also, the UFC card does have Anderson Silva (considered the top pound for pound fighther in MMA) jumping up a weightclass.
You could just record the UFC fight and watch the Affliction fight live, but nothing is worse than gambling on something you aren't watching live. -
watch ufc on tv and affliction on computer. or vice versa... problem solved
-
How can you not watch that Affliction card? It's the most absurdly stacked MMA card ever. I'm going to my homie's house to watch it PPV while DVRing the UFC card at my house and then coming here to watch it.
That Affliction card represents the first serious threat to the dominance of UFC since they bought Pride and there's no doubt that's why Dana scheduled the best pound for pound guy in the world and the organization's wonderboy to fight on free TV and live on the west coast to compete for viewers directly with that Affliction card in all time zones. It's really a punk move and shows what a cunt Dana White is, but it's smart. Casual MMA fans won't know a lot of the names on the Affliction card so they won't know how huge it is and they'll be all over Silva on free TV.
Anyone who watches MMA, not just UFC is gonna be watching that Affliction card. It's like watching the Super Bowl and then another Super Bowl and then another and then another and then...you get what I'm saying. This is the biggest card ever and Dana is shitting his drawers. -
that is exactly what "Big" John McCarthy said on that MMA show on HDNet...sounds like a wise decision to me.
while i will be recording the free UFC fight, i'm not sure if i'll be able to watch the Affliction show on Sat. since i'll be some person's house for somebody's b-day that i really don't know. kinda sucks! -
side by side 50's... but if I could only watch one it would be Affliction
-
RIP Silvia
-
You're kidding, right? Anderson knows how to duck a punch. You think he can't beat a knockout artist? How about these heavy handed strikers he's recently beat: Chris "The Crippler" Leben, Nate "Rock" Quarry, Dan Henderson... the list goes on.
My call: Anderson, second round, tko. -
That being said, I'm watching Affliction. (obv downloading UFC)
-
The Afflliction Card is absolutely stacked. Here's the list of fights scheduled:
265 lbs. | Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia
265 lbs. | Andrei Arlovski vs. Ben Rothwell
265 lbs. | Josh Barnett vs. Pedro Rizzo
185 lbs. | Matt Lindland vs. Fabio Negao
205 lbs. | Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs. Mike Whitehead
265 lbs. | Aleksander Emelianenko vs. Paul Buentello
185 lbs. | Vitor Belfort vs. Terry Martin
205 lbs. | Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Edwin Dewees
145 lbs. | Savant Young vs. Mark Hominick
205 lbs. | Justin Levens vs. Patrick Speight
170 lbs. | Mike Pyle vs. JJ Ambrose
That's pretty stacked. -
He said RIP Silvia, not Silva. Here's one of those casual MMA fans I was talking about who doesn't know how good that Affliction card is. Lol at typing in stupid fighter nicknames. :D

I am one of those more casual mma fans; so am i wrong but it looks like Affliction pick up the retreads from UFC?
-
anyone who watches the ufc over this affliction card doesnt know or enjoy mma. Fedor alone is worth 39.95. War Affliction!!
-
lool @ vitor belfort, I used to love him
-
To answer the Affliction picking up the UFC reject post, there are several fighters who have a winning record and are great fighters and can compete with the best in the UFC. However, after starting off great, they hit a "wall" and lose a couple of matches against championship level competition, and all of a sudden Dana White isn't as interested in them anymore. I personally believe that fighters like Andrei Arlovski and Renato "Babalu" Sobral are still top notch and quite capable of fighting for the belt in their weight class.
But for whatever reason during their contract negotiations, UFC loses interest. When that happens the UFC will not promote you anymore, ie Andrei Arlovski knocked out his last opponent in the UFC, but they did not even televise it in the ppv. Sobral won like a shiteload of matches in a row against quality opponents before being stopped by Liddel, but because of a little choking incident, Dana White doesn't want him in the UFC anymore, even though the guy's a top notch fighter. Tim Sylvia has a tremendous winning record and is underrated, but he is not popular with the fans.
And let's not forget Fedor Emelianenko (and his brother), and Nogueira's twin brother who are all fighting in this Affliction card, but have never fought in the UFC. Make no mistake, these are top notch fighters. Just because the UFC isn't interested in them anymore doesn't mean that they can't fight anymore. They are still quite capable of kicking ass and winning against the best. -
My only knock on the card is that all of the good fights are heavyweights. They have a ridiculous heavyweight card...but are pretty weak every where else...but I guess except for Silva, the whole UFC card is garbage
-
i think you said it yourself, they lose interest when they realize these guys are never gonna be champions.

there just seems to be such a fine line in mma between real good fighters and the elite. so many guys come in and are spoon fed these easy matchups and generate a lot of hype but when put up against the other beasts in the division they start looking pretty mortal. like babalu is a freak but when you put him in with chuck he looks like a kid getting beat up by his older brother.
i know this isnt the best example but he just fought the other night so its the first one that came to mind. chris lytle is pretty solid and well rounded but he just can't beat top flight competition. look at his sheet and you'll notice a lot of big names but an L next to just about every one of them. there are a lot of guys like this who are nasty but just can't seem to compete with the elite guys and i think we're seeing dana slowly start to phase them out.

edit: frank trigg is another where pretty much any notable opponent was a loss. i dunno if its the mental aspect or they just plain arent good enough but a lot of these guys seem to shit the bed any time they are on the doorstep of a title fight.

Autolobotomist - I just misread the name. Probably because he (AND you) misspelled it. It's Sylvia, not Silvia. Please dont go passing judgments on me. While I'm not going to say I know more than you about MMA (I dont know how much you know, just as you don't with me), I know more than 95% of MMA fans. Been a fan for over 10 years, I train MMA, and I read 3 MMA blogs daily. Oh, and I typed in the nicknames to emphasize my point about heavy hands.
Maybe you missed my post right after, stating that I would be watching the Affliction fight? -
Affliction looks like an awesome card but its all people who couldnt hack it in the ufc besides fedor
-
Guess Im just an occasional fan. Although the Affliction card looks awesome... Id rather watch Anderson Silva's performance as he moves up weight classes. Ive heard his everyday weight is around 215 so he should still crush it. Time will tell I suppose.
I dont even know who else is on that card tbh. -
I think that both Lytle & Trigg have gotten the most they can out of their abilities...in other words they've hit a talent plateau and it happens to be good enough to beat B list fighters but not A list guys
The big error that UFC (or maybe Spike) is making is that they're replaying the event again at midnight (eastern) so you could conceivably watch the Affliction fight then flip over to Spike for the UFC.
Also, Affliction is airing the entire card, something the White/Fertitta UFC has never done. 3 bouts on FSN then 8 bouts on PPV which will be 4 hrs -
when is dana white gonna realize that he has to do what is good for the sport and not his wallet.
the real fans want to see the top fighters go at it.
i believe this will increase fan base of the sport -
*taps*

Spike had a pretty good hour long preview to the fights this weekend. No, I have nothing more to add other than it was on and I watched it.

I think I will have to shell out the $50 for affliction and watch ufc at midnight after finding this out. -
I really wish the UFC or MMA in general. Would add a ranking that has to be followed. Similiar to boxing.
UFC works what fighters it wants up to title fights. Then if a guy sucks a few times. You never see him agian. except in passing on undercards.
Would love to see a guy who loses a bunch work his way back up the rankings then get another title fight. With us being able to see the movers on the list and see an actual ranking period.
I thinkg they need to take it a step farther then boxing tho. Make it very regimented. I realise this prob doesnt make good fights. But something along the lines of 1v2 3v4. winner of 3v4 gets next title shot. and so on. so 5v6 7v8 winners move up and losers move down. If you lose badly you drop 3 or 4 spots. if you win easily you move up 3 spots or so. if its a struggle to win you only move up a spot.
There needs to be a formula or something done . I know some sites have there own rankings. But I love MMA. I realise the way they do it. Makes it so its not so much about the rankings but good fights. But it has to be hard being a fighter. Not really knowing were you rank.
Plus I am a rankings geek. I love to see fighters move up and down rankings. I use to love watching my fav boxers climb to title shots. Until the whole sport turned into an assfest in late 80s early 90s.
