  1. Im not a big drinker but when I decide to have a bit its always scotch n water or soda water. Chivas Regal is my preference, id like to try something different. any ideas???
  2. anything but johnny walker red is my main priority.
  3. Ditch the blends as well as the soda and water.

Go with the singlemalts man: Glenfiddich, Lagavulin, Oban, Glenmorangie, Macallan
  4. If you have anything decent, you don't need the water or soda.

Starting down the path of "three fingers scotch w/ 3 cubes of ice", you're looking for a good, not overly aged single malt. The older scotches take on a strong, somewhat woody flavor from the cask. You should also avoid the peat scotches like Laphroaig, because the peat smoke also imparts some strong flavors which take a bit of getting used to.

    I'd recommend:

    Glenlivet 12

    Glenfiddich 12

    Macallan 10

    And then start experimenting.

  5. Any Glen will do.
  6. im drinking a mimosa....does that count?
  7. With scotch, although I do not mix it with anything per se, a few drops of water in it prior to drinking, brings out the flavors. That's how the Scots drink it, and if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me.

I do prefer the single malts the majority of time, but listen to your taste buds. If you like Chivas better than Glenfiddich, than that's the scotch for you. But, give the single malts a try. The older the vintage, the better.

And drink it slowly, savor it, allow it to rest upon your tongue a bit. Always start off with 3 small sips where you can really allow your taste buds to explode.

I am beginning to drool as I write this, so it's going to be a Glenfiddich day for me.

Enjoy. And as my tribe says. L'Chaim

    just rocks, thanks.
  9. did you see the cooking with semen thread?
  10. I prefer the single malts to the blends. Chivas is definitely not my favourite. Glen Morangie, Singleton, Lagavulin are a few of my fav's.

edit: Cardhu is another good single malt. I believe it's the main ingredient in the Chivas blend so if you like Chivas, you'll probably like Cardhu.
  11. Try Johnny Walker blue lable or a more expensive Chivas
  12. I like Glenlivet and Talisker.
  13. Talisker has got some real bite too it .... not for beginners :)
  14. Has anyone ever tried actually mixing melted butter with Scotch to see if it tastes like butterscotch?

  16. not really a scotch drinker but Johnnie Walker or Chivas on the rocks is fine by me.
  17. If you're starting out.

The Balvenie 12 year is a great place to start...and then move up to the 21 year...it's excellent, and isn't that expensive

I am yet to get the 30 year. JW Blue is nice too..

  18. "...any Glen will do."
