I have never in my life had seasonal allergies. A couple weeks ago I got a cold. A week or so thereafter, I had the worst itchy eyes, sneezing, and runny/stuffy nose. This has lasted nonstop for like 3 weeks now. It sucks so bad. My eyes itch so bad that I feel like taking a grapefruit spoon and scooping my eyes out of their sockets and using a barbecue grill wire brush to macerate them. Allegra-D 24 hr formula is barely touching it now. Sigh. Are anyone else's allergies killing them right now? I am afraid that this may be a lifelong problem now, blah. Does anybody else take any drugs that are particularly helpful for them? I think I am going to get a steroid nasal spray soon.

I had some crazy ass allergies but I think they were because I was around some cats for an extended period of time. I was actually miserable, itchy all over and my eyes felt like total shit for like the first 3 hours of the day or until I left my house. Eventually I vacuumed all over my house and opened all the windows for a whole day, everything went away then.
Allerga didn't do much for me when when I used it.
Sorry I am sure this doesn't help at all. -
from what I hear ragweed pollen is ridic high right now. so weird that i would develop allergies at age 32.

I have had airborne allergies all of my life, as does my son. I also developed some sort of food allergies within the last couple of years that cause severe urticaria (very large firm wheals on my shoulders, back or feet).

The benefit of having to take heavy doses of fexophenadine and cetirizine for the food allergies, is that the effects of my airborne allergies has been reduced. I also had a similar positive effect with coumadin (for my mechanical valve)... prevents oral herpes lesions from forming. -
Call a doctor?............or a girl scout?

Yea mupp when I was back in Missouri two weeks ago almost as soon as I drove into the state my allergies started kicking my ass. Haven't had allergies in 9 years before that. So I'm thinking it's just one of those really bad years cuz last year I didn't so much as get a sniffle.
Also got zyrtec d and the first pill was great all better then didn't do shut took for another four days including the first day I was back on the road and after I stopped it was two more days and I was better. I occasionally now get a bit of a stuffy nose like when I drove through Oklahoma a few days ago but that's it.
Im starting to wonder if continuing the mess actually hurts sometimes. Like it's only good at the start and then it's just perpetuating.
But I'm no doctor or pharmacist -
I have pretty terrible spring time allergies that the usual suspects(claritin-d,etc) couldn't touch. I started trying anything and everything, and I've had phenomenal results with: http://www.oregonswildharvest.com/ow...with_quercetin
For all I know I'm slowly killing myself with whatever is in these, but my eyes don't itch nor am I sneezing, so it's a net positive in my book. -
allegra once a day does it for me, how many days have you taken it? i wouldnt expect it to work after just one day if they are that bad.

Acidophilus. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acidophilus
Through the years of taking anti-biotics, the anti-biotics kill all bacteria, good and bad. You need to rebuild your pro-biotics. Take acidophilus for a month or two and you will be better. You can also eat yogurt on a daily basis to get the acidophilus. -
That is about when I developed them.. and it is ragweed that does it for me as well. Typically starts September 15th (to the day) and ends about October 15th.. but that tends to vary.

This year, being in Texas with all of the dry and hot weather we've had, it hasn't started up for me yet.. and I've missed the last two years being in India during peak ragweed season.
I also, have tried Allegra, Claritin, Claritin-D, Zyrtec and numerous other things and the only thing that works reasonably well for me is a combination of Zyrtec along with Nasonex. Hope you have good insurance, because that stuff is expensive.... but necessary for me. -
My allergies are horrible in the spring. I've tried all the OTC drugs and nothing helps. The only relief I get is from DayQuil and a saline nasal spray.

Edit: Also a teaspoon a local honey everyday seems to help build an immunity to the allergens. Could be a placebo but sure is tasty.
Reason: Beeeeeeeeeeeees -
I'm allergic to EVERYTHING. I'm supposed to get shots, but I never had the time (drive all the way there and wait 30 min to make sure I didn't have any negative side effects) so I stick to Allegra D. I've taken Zyrtec and Clariton, but Allegra works the best for me. The "D" is sf expensive, but if I don't take it, and start sneezing, my allergies cause sinus probs and it makes me feel like I have a cold.
I ran out and am pretty busto since I'm not working and went a few days w/o Allegra, and I felt like I had the worst head cold ever. I got Allegra yday and feel completely fine. It works wonders. -
Spring and fall, I'll sneeze seriously like 40 times a day (usually 4-5 times in a row at a time)....I take claritin which helps but I'll still been stuffy and itchy and sneezy, just not nearly as bad
-
try allegra D. You have to get it from behind pharmacy counter, but it will stop the stuffiness. if Clariton and Zyrtec have a decongestant kind, they should work as well. The D saves me a solid 5-6 sinus infections a day (whenever I get colds I get sinus infections sigh).

My allergies started in my early 30's, they started out mild and got worse as the years went on.
In the last year I missed 4 days of work, I get them so bad I can't get off the couch. I went in for testing to see what I am allergic to and it was mold/dust mites (actually thier crap)/some trees and weeds/dog (I would have to go before the dog does).
They started me on a immune therapy treatments, basically an injection of allergens to build up resistance. My father in law swears by it and the doctor told me there is a high sucess rate. I still take Claritan daily.
They also had me get a nasal rinse, basically squirt salt water through one side of the nose to the other, I breathe a LOT better through the day and it's not bad once you do it a couple of times (I do the treatment in the shower in the morning)
Allergys suck!
