I'm in a huge bind and am considering selling my wedding ring. I either paid 2500 or 5 grand for it at suposedly 70% off. I can't remember shit, but it has either 5 carrot or a full carrot of diamonds set in 10c gold. Does anyone know the best place to get the most value from selling something like this? How screwed will I get selling something like this?
-
if you are still married don't do it no matter what imo. There has to be and is another way
-
no chance it was 5 carrot's.
Isn't there a tv commerical for shit like this im sure they will give you fair market value. -
I dont need moral advice, just answers to my question. I wouldnt even consider selling it if we weren't in danger of losing our home.
-
your best bet would be talking to a jeweler. Or go to a pawn shop see what they offer for it and realize you can selling for about 3-4x what they would give you for it.
-
I would try ebay or craigs list 1st. At a pawn or jewlery shop your only going to get about 25% of its real value.
-
did you ever get the ring appraised? If so, bring that with you to the jewler so they can't completely low ball you.
How much are you hoping/expecting to get? -
I would recommend selling it on e-bay. I have actually gone to a couple of jewelers in the last few days, as I was selling a few items of my own. From what I can tell the jewelers that actually buy are most likely going to melt the items down for gold. Your case may be different due to the diamonds. Even getting an appraisal for your item is expensive. I have a bracelet that is similiar to what Zales was selling for 1800(reduced 50% from 3600) and was offered 385,415, and 525. But the diamonds in your item may actually work against you. It seems that most jewelers are just looking for gold to melt down. I would suggest taking to a pawn shop and listen to his insanely low offer just to get an idea, and then list it on e-bay. Good luck. (btw its karats, not carrots)

I'm sorry to say but selling one ring probobly won't fix that. I do this for a living and can tell you to not expect to get even close to what you paid for it.

Now i'm not sure how much the ring weighs but i'm guessing no more than 10 grams. If thats the case I wouldn't expect more than 70-80 bucks for that.
The stone I can't give a good price range without seeing for obv reasons.
Is the stone certed? I'm guessing it's not but if it is it might help you sell it as the jeweler will know exactly what they are getting.
I can tell you that jewelers and pawn shop just aren't paying that much for diamonds unless they are VERY nice and even then you won't get the full value. -
I remember when I used to think carrots had something to do with karats. When I was 5..
-
you mean carats?
-
Ok, thanks for the answers. I was wondering how much I would get lo-balled. Also, I knew carrots looked wrong, thanks for straigtening me out on that one. lol
So Jewlers, pawnshops and ebay with ebay being the one place where I have a chance to get a halfass decent deal. I hate ebay though, they screwed Netteller up and I had a credit card that I used to use on paypal copied and was caught trying to get used somewhere in Eastern Europe once. I think I fell for the old paypal email trick right after I had bought something there.
Thanks for the responces. I just got screwed on my car insurance where I was late getting a bill from my previous address. I got the bill late then sent them money to pay off the next several months. They sent most of the money back and cancelled me. Now instead of paying 1600 a year I'm paying over 6 grand a year. -

wat. get a new ins co. imo
maybe try pming dolphin, he seems to buy/sell gold. worth a shot. gl sir -
It's certified and appraised, I just have to dig up the old paperwork. I'm just trying to survive until I can find a decent job. I had the same job for 24 years and made good money. Shit happens though and when it does you have to do what you have to do. I own 2 homes so selling one will help in a big way, it's just a horrible time to be selling.
The carot jokes were all really really funny, but I do appreciate gamble correcting me in an adult way. -
I went to every insurance place in town and got the lowest one. By getting canceled they ran MVR's and found a small finderbinder from my wife and 3 speeding tickets on me in 3 years. One drops off in March and will make a pretty big drop. It's also 80 grand worth of vehicles when they were new.

Perhaps you could look into selling your cars and get cheaper ones?
that'd probably net you more money than a ring would.
If you're out of work, sell the car (if it's nice and worth a good amount) and then use a portion of the proceeds to buy a cheap ass car just to get you from Point A to Point B.
Or if you sell the car and use public transportation until you get back on your feet, you wouldn't have to worry about car insurance for yourself. Just a couple other ideas to possibly generate quick cash.
As far as the jewelry, get it checked out by a local person but sell it on Ebay/Craigslist. If it's appraised and you have the documentation it should make it that much easier to sell. I've sold jewelry on Craigslist before without any hassles. -
I owe more than $8000 than the car is worth so I can't sell it. I took it to the dealer a week ago to see if there was anything I could do and there isn't. A repo stays on your record longer than bankruptcy.
I live 20 miles from the nearest town. The population of the entire county is 10,000. No public transportation here.
I'd give the car away in a heartbeat if I could find a sucker to take over the payments. -
Damn, that sucks. It could also make selling on Craigslist a total bitch if there's no major cities near you. Maybe stick with Ebay then, you'll get the largest audience there.
Definitely have it inspected though so you know what you have to avoid somebody trying to rip you off. Properly advertising it on Ebay will be the key to the amount of money you get for it.
