  1. We are considering sending my son to Prep school for high school; he'll be in eighth grade this fall. We already visited the campus and are studying for the SSAT. The school is about a 3 hour drive from home but he will live there. Although it's family decision, he is all for it.

Anyone have any experience in this?
  2. Why are you going prep school over private school? I was public schooled but I have a friend that went to a prep school that most of his male family member attended. He said he enjoyed it and I'm sure the education and bonds that he made were great. I just feel like a prep school is a little extreme and I wouldn't want to miss most of my kids maturing especially at such a pivotal time in their lives.

  3. yep was away foR 3 yeaRs 1100 miles fROm home. best time of my life.
  4. Have you not seen any episodes of Law and Order? These prep guys are all drug takers, sexual deviants and/or general assholes.

  5. Is he going to have a british accent afterwards?

I currently live in the same school district that I grew up in and it does not provide much for getting ahead in life. I'm fairly successful however I'm also very driven. My son is driven as well but I see nothing wrong with giving him the extra head start in life. As for not seeing him mature, he's only three hours away and will be home almost six months of the year. We are also much, much closer than my father and I were and closer than a lot of fathers and sons I know, this is a mutual decision.

2 years and 2800 miles for me. It was fucking legit
  8. its a good idea. no kid wants to be around their parents during high school.
  9. Given he is all for it I say absolutely. It's a huge deal and the lessons he will leave with are priceless.
  10. Get his owl now before their price goes up.

    snapcall, especially b/c of above
  12. Sounds pretty good to me OP. Nothing wrong with giving your child any advantages you can in life. GL with the tests and the tuition.

  13. Let him choose. Say "you can either go to school x here in town or school y in xxyx"
  14. yup if hes for it do it
  15. Do they have some kind of package where you get a discount off rehab in advance?
  16. send him to public school. jails are even better at rehab than hoighty resort rehabs
  17. Haha <3 the replies - I actually think this is the one situation I could support prep school - normally I'd say no way - but if it's what he wants to do and you can closely monitor his progress - why not give it a try?
  18. 2 years, 460 miles away.

    legit lol
  20. I went to a boarding High School, 4 years grades 9-12, bout a 3 hour drive from home. I didnt like it, they structure your life so much so little freedom to make your own schedule of doing things, by grade 12 it was unbearable

I don't know how popular your kid is but if he end up like me with very few friends and you are living there the place can be a hell, no where to hide/ get away for a while.
  21. probably -EV imo

  22. It won't matter if he continues to hit home runs.

    Reason: Tom Cruise bish.
  24. Just seems absurd to me to live away from your family during those years.
  25. I went to boarding school for 4 years. It was easily the best decision of my life.

This basically what we talked about. If it doesn't work for him, he comes home and goes to high school here with his friends. He is very excited about it and makes friends very easy...it's never been an issue.

It won't matter if he continues to hit home runs.

We going to another tournament this weekend, Ill try to get pics if he goes yard.

  27. I went to one, started drinking and smoking pretty early a\s it was a big thing at the school. Rich kids tended to get into more shit.

True, but at least they're experimenting under supervision instead of being sheltered until they hit freshman year of college and you have no clue what they're up to - drugs/drinking are everywhere - teach them about moderation while they're young (preferably before they're old enough for the shit to go on their permanent record)

    Reason: Damn you autocorrect
  29. LOL @ prep schools and private schools. I went to a public HS and had a blast. My fav thing to do was get super stoned at lunch and then play basketball we had a lot of good players. Mario Chalmers went to my HS his dad was a coach there.

What's the advantage of going to a prep school?? Spend a bunch of $$$ and hang out with a bunch of spoiled white kids?? Def not my cup of tea.
  30. I spent 2 years in a public high school in 3 in a private boarding school, Ontario at the time had 13 grades. Going to both was grounding, allows you to see real life aside from just private school life. From an academic side, the private school was sending many more students to top universities than the public one was. If used correctly you will gain more from a private school guidance department than you ever would at a public school.
