Tomorrow I head to KC around noon to stay at the MEPS hotel, then ship off sometime Wednesday. Pretty fucking nervous/excited about it.

I signed for the Advanced Electronics Computer Field program in the Navy, so I'm looking forward to all the gay sailor sexin'. I'll be in Great Lakes, IL for 8 weeks of bootcamp, then another 10 months or so of A-School, then I most likely head to San Diego or Virgina for another year of C-school (had to sign a 6-year contract because of the ~2 years of school).
I made a thread about possibly signing up almost a year ago, and appreciated all the advice I got. http://www.pocketfives.com/f13/anyone-here-navy-577427/
Anyway, I'll fucking miss OT for two months, see you bitches when I get out.

if the navy is anything like the army make sure you get sleep now and sleep on the plane cause ur gonna be up for a couple days once u get there with little food standing ass to crouch with like 500 other dudes...stay mentally tough and you'll be fine. gl bro

lol, yeah, I hope he's just talking about bootcamp.
yeah, i've been told to eat and sleep as much as i can at the airport in chicago, because I'll be kept up for at least the next 36 hours with no food when i get there.Originally Posted by team_josh122

i'll miss you most, big guy. (i mean that in the gayest way possible) -
Good luck

you won't go 36 hours without sleep and most def won't go w/out food for that long. you will stay busy all day, and it will seem like you are heading to the galley every other hour, they will feed you 3 times a day, grtd, and you have to be in bed by 10, 9 if you have testing the next day. they will wake you around 5 every morning. when i was there, i wore a watch with an alarm, and set mine for 445 every mornign so i could get up and take a shower and shave by myself instead of with the other 80 guys you will be sharing a room with. Dont do this until a set routine is in place though.
the 1st week is the worst because of all the uncertainty, and you'll get all your shots and any dental work done that is needed. The shots are mandatory, but having dental work done in bootcamp is not somthing you want to have done....so hopefully your teeth arent' all fucked up. I remember dudes laying in there racks in serious pain from having dental work done, and it just looked terrible. I went during football season and our RDC's let us watch 1 game on sat, 1 game on sun, and if we didn't screw up we got to watch some of the MNF game until lights went out.......Bootcamp was fun, interesting, yet difficult at times. "The days are long, but the weeks fly by" Good luck shippy!! -
Good luck buddy. I shipped off to MEPS on Oct 6th, 1994 and left for Fort Leonard Wood, MO on Oct 7th. Most nervous I've ever been in my life. It all worked out though.

I have no idea how the Navy does it, but I did not sleep from the time I landed in St. Louis until I finished initial processing at Reception Battalion. Was up for about a day and a half straight.
It will stress you out but keep your head up. I remember calling my mom from Reception Battalion after about 4 days and started crying like a bish on the phone to her. "WHY THE FUCKKKKKKKKK DID I DO THIS? WTFFFFFFFFFFFFF?" Once I got to basic training a few days later, I realized I would love the Army.
When it really starts to suck, just remember that millions of people have gone through it before you. It's just another thing. -
Thank you, and good luck.

Good luck JPITT. You'll be just fine. Just don't be the guy that can't keep his mouth shut, and gets everybody else in trouble :)
At the end of the day, you are going to make some friends in Boot Camp. You'll come out of it with some good stories, and believe it or not you'll actually enjoy some of it and think back on it with some fondness. Keep your eyes front and mouth shut.
The best advice I can give you, is the same I gave to my soldiers over the years. Be in the right place, at the right time, in the right uniform. Everything else will take care of itself. It's that easy. Take care. -
good luck jpitt. me merking you in cod will have to wait
-
Sweet! Thx man. How much are you sending? Oh wait....
-
Thank you for your service!
Best of luck to ya. -
All the best from a former anchor-clanker. Served a couple tours in a light guided missile destroyer as part of the "Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club." Had some bad moments, but overall great life experience. Of course I'm biased, but definitely feel the Navy was the right choice. Have fun and stay safe, sir.
