Both conferences are horrible and the Big Ten doesn't even play a champ game. The best team in the Big Ten loses to Iowa which wouldn't be in the top 5 in most conferences. The ACC is awful in football, its not even fun to watch. I won't get started on Notre Dame--fired Willingham and Weis is even worse.
-
Big East?
-
Might as well throw in pac-10 while you're at it.
-
At least the Pac 10 had one good team and the most of the other teams score some. The other 2 conferences have ZERO good teams and barely score at all. Please don't say Ohio St, they are awful they just play in the easiest conference in the world so they get their ass kicked every year in the BCS.
-
I believe the Big 10 was 2 and 1 in bowl games against the SEC last year.
-
You may want to take a look at the BCS and AP polls this week. 5 of the top 25 teams are in the ACC. It's a bit of an overstatement to say 'The ACC is aweful in football".
Granted the 5 teams are ranked between 19 and 25.
The thing is, the top 10 teams are the elite teams in the nation. There are hundreds of football programs, and to say you are just aweful if you aren't a 1 loss team is just absurd. The ACC has 5 teams with 2 losses at 7-2 or 6-2. That's not "awerul in football".
Put things in perspective. Also, as far as conferences go, there will be a power shift in 2 or 3 years, and you will see 2 or 3 ACC teams in the top 10 once again. I'll go out on a limb and say it will be Miami, FSU, and UNC.
Here are the BCS and AP polls respectively as of Saturday. New polls are not out yet.

the big east and yeah the acc shouldnt have to put a team in the bcs. i mean they have been bad for a while. i think the big 10 should but make it where any conf champ must be in the top 15 or 20 to get in.
the real problem is like this year the big 12 and sec should have 4 if not 5 spots. the current deal fucks us out of those teams getting the primo match-ups. i mean either the #2 sec or big 12 plays in some 2nd tier bowl where they win the game by 3 tds or more....they should have to be in the top 20 to qualify imo. -
hey cuz i normally agree and i know you are a cane but of those 3 only fsu is gonna be a top 15 regular. the canes are fighting an uphill battle as that president donna is freakin terribad and shannon while a good coach is far from one of the games best. now unc you can forget about them getting even close long-term to bama..tex..uf..usc of even mich or ohio st...aint gonna happen imo. the acc will not push for a top 2 conf anytime soon...just my opinion. the canes will be back only AFTER schlala or w.e. is gone.

Do you know who is coaching UNC currently? Thats right, Butch Davis. Do we all remember his recruiting talent (already done a fine job)? Coker took his team and won 20 something games in a row.
Ga Tech is definitely on the right track. They implemented a spread option offense that is working great and their RB (name escapes me .. is it Dyer?) is very good.
Did you forget about Va Tech? They are consistently ranked high and have just done poor this year. However, they have a true freshman QB, and will only get better.
Which conference is going to keep them out of the top 2? A Big 12 that is losing Bradford, McCoy, Harrell (sp?), and Daniel this year or next year? A Pac 10 that has one good team? An overrated Big 10 every year? Mark my words: The ACC will be the 2ndbest conference in NCAA FB in 2 years, and will rival the SEC in 4.
Edit: And stop hating on the ACC without any idea what you are talking about. -
You said it better than I cleeshay, but I was basically saying the same thing you just said.
so...this -
wow clee loolz...do you know that miami is a recruiting hot bed? and the carolinas are..well.....not? the fact that you think blue chip talent is chomping at the bit to play in places like blacksburg and boston and chapel hill and where ever wake and nc st and maryland play is surprising. you dont have to talk to me about not knowing what im talking about ive been watching football for a couple days. top 2 conf in the nation? you mean this nation? the usa? idts!

and please lol dont bring up history to make your point! you will just look dumb. va tech? are you serious? you want me to consider them a top program? you have no idea what youre talking about! and ga tech loolz theyve been "on the right track" for about 30 years now!
acc football where every week is a homecoming match-up! if you would like to cover it i will put 1000 bucks against the acc in their bowls for the next 5 years! or 10 years! im sure you can find plenty of acc fans full of knowledge to cover it. lol and people said wow fsu and um will raise the bar in the acc...yeah right! those two have met the rest at the bottom but loolz the league is on the same level now!
um might be the #4 team in fla right now! they have gone down to crying about teams running the score up! lol....now theres "hate" so next time you will recognize it! of course i mixed it with real hard down truth so it might just seem like real live football knowledge to the trained eye. work on your basketball you are on much firmer ground there!
ps..think about my wager offer...i will do it! -
You might want to chill with this kowboy, because cleeshay pretty much hit the nail on the head in his post.
And I know I'm a Miami homer (I admit it), but we've had a top 3 recruiting class for each of the last 2 years, and will again this year. Almost everybody playing is a true, or redshirt freshman or Sophomore.
Butch Davis is one of the best coaches in College football, and UNC is going to have a great program very soon...on their way already.
Georgia Tech will put together a couple more pieces after this season and will be solid in the near future.
FSU (hate to say it) is talented, and will explode onto the scene along with Miami at the end of next year...and 2 years from now it will be the Florida football show as it was in the 90's. -
dont care for the way that boy was talking to me cuz. but 1. davis wont stay 2. firing art kehoe was terrible and um should be ashamed and it hurt the recruiting. they will be back i know but that lady president is poison. 3. i admitted fsu is very close. when they got amato back they got the best so. fl. recruiter in the nation. as well as maybe the best defensive evaluator in the ncaa! amato is very very underrated. no offense 24. you know this right?

Awww, what's the matter OP, sad because the SEC is no where near as good as the Big 12 this year, so you want to pick on conferences lower down to make yourself feel better?
Any discussion of a BCS conf not deserving a bid starts and stops with the Big East. As much as I love UC, if they make the BCS game, that is a fucking joke. They might be able to beat an ACC team, but thats about it.
The big ten is widely regarded by every football analyst i've seen to be better than both the ACC and Pac 10. One good team does not make a good conference, Oregon St is the 2nd best team in the Pac 10 and Penn St curb stomped them. Ohio State does not get stomped in the BCS "every year", they lost the last 2, but won 3 prior to that.
Get over it, the SEC is not that great this year, minus Florida. Alabama's schedule has been pretty soft so far, but they will still probably deserve a BCS bid after they lose the SEC champ game. Suggesting a team like LSU should be in the BCS is a fucking joke. They struggled with teams like Auburn and Miss St and got run off the field by Georgia, who themselves looked absolutely awful vs. both Florida and Alabama.
And to whomever was comparing Big Ten/SEC bowl record recently, here is the data, and it hardly shows an SEC dominance:

There are confrence rankings put out each week. At the end of last week. Big 10 was only 1 point beging SEC. Big 10 was third.
They are and will pretty much always be a top 3 confrence.
One game does not say a team is bad or good. PEnn State lost. almost all top teams have a loss, and alot of those are to crap teams. It happens.
Sure the Big 10 has been down the last few years. But the Big 10 being down still means they are the 3rd best confrence. -

with Penn states loss this week Big 10 has droped to 4th. At the end of last year with the bowls over. Big 10 was 2nd over SEC. -
pretty interesting article and pretty spot on.....wish he would update it though as it only covers through September and I feel the big 12 has shown itself to be a lot better top to bottom as well as the ACC.....As much as I hate UF they are always prepared for big games but let's not forget they did lose to ole miss in the great swamp.....btw kowboy you are one of the biggest homer's on this site stop looking at things through your blue and orange glasses...

According to Jeff Sagarin (one of the "computer polls" used in the BCS, though the BCS uses the dumb rankings where score margin doesn't matter) the conference rankings are as follows:
1 BIG 12 (A) = 78.70 78.93 ( 1) 12
2 ATLANTIC COAST (A) = 77.46 77.22 ( 3) 12
3 SOUTHEASTERN (A) = 77.01 77.45 ( 2) 12
4 BIG TEN (A) = 75.97 76.04 ( 4) 11
5 BIG EAST (A) = 74.32 73.47 ( 5) 8
6 PAC-10 (A) = 73.18 72.48 ( 6) 10
7 MOUNTAIN WEST (A) = 71.29 71.46 ( 7) 9
8 I-A INDEPENDENTS (A) = 66.41 65.99 ( 8) 4
He weights the middle teams in the conference more then the best and the worst, so teams like USC don't help their conference very much. If you do a simple average of all teams then flip the ACC and SEC.

I found the comment about the Big 12 falling behind the ACC in a few years to be very amusing, ty for that. I would humbly suggest that the Big 12 schools are getting the best, most athletic recruits they ever have. Consider the transformation at Texas Tech. In five years they've gone from pretty good system offense/terrible defense to explosive, athlete-driven offense and speed defense capable of shutting down a very good offense of the #9 team in the country, not to mention throttling Texas and "Heisman winner" Colt McCoy for most of that game as well.
It's sad, but the ACC is pretty much relegated to being a bunch of SEC-lite type teams for now and the foreseeable future. To suggest that it will overtake not only the Big 10 but also the Pac 10 and Big 12 in the next few years is ridiculous. -
i want to just say eat my azz on the iowa comment.

keep running your yapper acc boy! mr overrated will be playing your team very soon! dont miss it! and acc football is fukkin terrible. dont shoot me im simply the one that has to inform the fans of same. another acc fan put the box score of the duke vs vandy box score in the GATORS thread! it took me a while to figure out why looolz...you guys are really grasping.

GOOD GAWD even most of the noles and acc fans KNOW THIS, you can have a great team and be in the acc, noone is saying otherwise. acc is actually desent this year bc of so many middle pack teams but other than unc i dont see a "real good" team in the bunch...even if they are. i could be wrong i dont watch em much. to call me a homer is fine as i love my team but looolz i think im more objective than ahhhh "some others".

PS ALL OF YOU GET TOGETHER AND COVER MY 1K PER BOWL BET!!!!!!
ill also ADD the sec and take them for every bowl over the same time frame. -
1 more thing...the big 12 has 3 teams that are good enough to be in the bcs. the sec has 2. if the system were taking the best teams that would leave 3 spots. yall can split those 3 any way you want but to help you a lil more usc should have 1 and penn st SHOULD have 1...that leaves 1 spot left......thats all im sayin and i get attacked for that? w.e. people!!!
put the big east or acc champ in that group...ok? who is the #8 seed? -
Why even have automatic bids?
That's pretty ghey.
I hate how it's like, the N.C. game is #1 vs #2, but, some of the other BCS bowls are like #3 vs #19 or some garbage.
If they really are going to refuse to make an 8-team playoff for the national title, then, at the very least it would be nice for them to get rid of the automatic conference bids, and make the bcs bowls just be 1 v 2, 3 v 4, 5 v 6, 7 v 8 etc.
