I still have three months of unemployment left and I don't really want a job yet (why shouldn't I milk itIt's like a tax refund IMO). I work part time for about 4 hours a week and when combined with unemployment I'm pulling in a mighty $550 a week (lollerskates). My wife pulls in the big coin and I'm on her health insurance plan (which is free).
But this job only pays 30k-31.5k and Id essentially be an administrative assistant for a publishing company. I wouldn't even be interviewing with the company. They outsource to a personnel service.
Thoughts? besides 'get a job.'
UPDATE
So I went to this personnel company for the interview and I pretty much now understand that being overqualified is just a nice way of saying not qualified. She said she can def find me a job but doesn't know, if given my background, I would be happy sitting in an office all day. (For the right price, I'd be PHI's secretary)
I have to take some tests and figure out how to pass a power point test even though I've never used that program before. Maybe I'll have my wife do it (I keed, I keed).
At least I realized that I'm not qualified for anything and reached my professional peak when I was 20 years old covering Chicago White Sox games for a daily newspaper.
Where did I put that suicide thread again? (Calm down, I'm just kidding) -
I thought you just pwned OT limit tourneys for a living.

By all means, you should stay home and wait for the phone calls to start pouring in from executives begging to pay you a six-figure salary plus a car allowance and monthly bonuses. How would you feel if you got this piddly job and missed those calls? Pretty dumb, I'd say.
-
By being on unemployment, you agreed to actively attempt to find work. Don't be another fraud on the system. Try and get a job.
-
meh u got three months but the job market kinda sucks right now but prolly not so bad for less then 30k jobs, either or.
-
Don't know you but the impression I get your somewhere in your 30's, yes? Seems like you could do better than this job. Go to Majestic Star and play 2/5 NLH.
-
you do understand that at the rate you're going you'll be blackballed in recruiting circles in your area by the time your unemployment runs out? Then what will you do?
-
please do, then maybe you will post less
-
lollers. I used to pawn the 6-12 limit kill games at MJII back when it was Trump and Resorts was Harrahs. I was a young 20 something before tek pokah really boomed and I thought i could play 6-12 limit kill for a living. I made liek 10k over the first three months of a year and thought I was God. But I spent more than half my bankroll on bullshit and learned what variance was.
Right now I'm 28 The bad thing is that I'll never find a job doind anything close to what I was doing before. So I think I have to start from scratch. -
Colonel Sanders didn't sell any chicken until he was 65.
-
Sounds like you may not be qualified for this job.
Tax dollars hard at work. -
Are you seriously this lazy. I am never turning ANY interview down. NEVER.
Get off your fucking ass and take the damn interview. IMO this makes you no different than people milking FEMA or the Welfare system. People over use unemployment because they are lazy and don't want to look for a job. What happens when your unemployment runs out and your wife gets laid off and you can't get an interview anywhere to save ur life.
Apply for everything you can. I would rather work a shit job then milk unemployment. That is just my work ethics. I will only use unemployment is there are no options available to me if I get laid off and then Im still applying my ass off everywhere and taking the first thing that comes available to me
STOP BEING LAZY
/rant -
OHH yeah and denying an interview is highly ILLEGAL when on unemployment
-
if you are questioning it then...
no. -
yes, you should. you are being a leech on society. you are abusing the liberal policies that you stand for.
-
I think I would lose a lot of self respect if my current situation was best described as "milking unemployment."
-
lol at leech on society. Do what you want. Just because you are lazy now doesnt mean you will be 3 months from now. Take your time dont rush into something you will quit anyway.
-
thats the thing you cant take ur time when u on unemployment....ITS CALLED FRAUD
You can not turn down ANY interview .....it is called FRAUD -
If you want a serious answer here it is. GO BECOME A SKYCAP! easy sit down job and you make 120k+ a year
-
go in and demand cash from them right then and there if they plan to hire you. $200 is the accepted rate to ask for.
don't think of it as work, the whole thing is to just enjoy yourself. -
that reminds me of that scene from good will hunting when ben afflick goes in to discuss a retainer lol
i want that suit he wears pretty bad -
Affleck them for sure. More like boiler room though.

Alright, I guess you all shamed me into going.
I guess that I've been working almost full time since I was 15 years old. During college I would come home most weekends so i could work (preparing myself for my job after college).
I pretty much gave everything I had to the company that laid me off. Last year I used less than half my vacation time. And in five years I took one sick day (appendectomy) and never used a personal day. So I'm not that lazy. I'm just trying to unwind.
edit: And I guess the reason I'm not thrilled about going is becasthat ' significantly less than what i was making. I don't want to settle on something less and I don't want to take a job and then quit in two or three months for another job. -
I'm not sure how unemployment works, but if you are accepting a job that you are way over qualified for then I'm not sure it is the best idea. I realize it seems as though you are milking unemployment, but at the same time you are putting yourself in a tough spot. It's not your motherfucking fault you got fired. If you feel confident that you can get a better job, similar to the one that you lost, then use the alotted time you have for unemployment.
You have worked hard to get the background and job education that you posess, if you start a new job, which is a timely process, you will be stuck for a significant amount of time and it is extremely hard to get time off at a brand new job to go to interviews. So, essentially your small window the government has given you is now even smaller. The only reason I recommend taking a HUGE pay cut is if you absolutely believe there is no chance or a very limited chance of finding a job that meets your qualifications. -
It's just an interview, he can go there and act like a fool. What else are you gonna do today dolphin?
-
Curtass is spot on and that is how the laws for unemployment insurance benefits are written.
-
not true curtass, u dont have to take any job that is thrown ur way.... U cant just sit on ur ass and do nothing, but u can turn down interviews...
