    stupid Oilers, we waive him after giving him 7 games to make an impression. He did good in those 7 games, but they were never for more then 3- games at a time. Glad to see he's doing good on the Islanders, seems to be a popular place for players the Oilers think aren't any good. (MAB)

    Wanna know the sick thing here is a list of players who were eligible to play for Canada's WJ team this year who are currently in the NHL:

    Steven Stamkos
    John Tavares
    Matt Duchene
    Tyler Myers
    Michael Del Zotto
    Evander Kane
    Ryan O'Rielly

    plus Cody Hodgson was hurt who would of been on the first line with Eberle and Hall for sure no question about it.

    That's a pretty impressive talent depth if these guys weren't tearing it up in the NHL.

    Imagine the lineup:

    Tavares-Stamkos-Eberle
    Hall-Duchene-Kane
    Hodgson-O'Rielly-Kadri
    Cormier-Schenn-DellaRovere

    Myers-Pietrangelo
    Ellis-Del Zotto
    Teubert-Hamonic

    If they had a decent goalie I would let that roster compete with some NHL teams for 60 minutes.

    Turns 39 this month. Do Hockey players play longer than average other sports? Football obviously because of the punishment, basketball, soccer due to loss of speed/agility/reaction time.

    Baseball thanks to the DH can extend some careers.

    Or is it just high profile players like Yzerman, Chelios, Howe etc. that make it seem that way?

    I think a lot of teams feel they owe certain players a debt for helping them win a cup so they keep them on the team way past their prime. Or the name on their jersey still carries some weight and puts asses in seats. Some of them are just still that good. Look at Tkachuck, the last 2 seasons he finished with 27 and 25 goals. Sure he's past his prime, but what team doesn't want a 25 goal scoring veteran who's willing to stand in front of the net and deflect pucks off their face every night.
    On the flip side, you got guys like Chelios who took a roster spot of im sure way more deserving players and should have been traded for a bucket of pucks 5 years ago.
