Moved from Texas to Tahoe area last year and will be snowboarding for the first time in my life when I finally get back home from holiday travels. Looking for some recommendations on equipment for someone with no experience. Should I look for used equipment, or start out with some nicer newer stuff? What brands? Thanks a lot.

Reason: because -
Sports authority is a great place to pick up great deals on prior year burton boards/bindings. Also http://www.whiskeymilitia.com/ is a daily deal site that will have some steals, you just have to take the time to check it routinely.

If you only plan on riding once or twice a year it really does not matter what brand you get, just make sure that it is the correct size for your weight and your boots are comfortable. I ride roughly 25 days per season and when it comes to boards/bindings I'm a burton homer. There are definitely other quality brands out there that are a better a $ value, but I stick with Burton.
Currently riding a custom X, with Burton P1's and I love it. -
So you want to buy equipment before you ever even attempt to snowboard? Not the best idea.
Go somewhere and rent shit first. Ive seen people quit after a half a day and vow to never snowboard/ski again. Dont waste money yet cause there is a chance you might hate it. -
I would rent some equipment like Jaybone said and see if you like snowboarding first. You might like skiing better and not even realize it. What mountain did you get a season pass too? I see your on the westside in Tahoe City so hopefully you got a pass at Squaw or Alpine. If not I would get a pass at Heavenly since you get Northstar and Sierra pass with it. So 3 mountains for the price of 1. I used to live in Tahoe about a year and a half ago and am moving back in 3 weeks. Once I get out there I will have to try and get in touch with you and we can ride some. Also hopefully your a fan of the greenery since that is almost a must if you are living in Tahoe.
