i'm wondering who else in OT has recently graduated and been looking for work longer than 2 months? what have you been doing to keep busy? and where/how are you looking? anything you've learned that has helped you get more interviews?

if you've recently been hired, share a success story!

  8. My company is hiring. They have approx. 400 job openings right now.

    http://www.fluor.com/careers/Pages/l...es_search.aspx

    Click search openings.

Then after it loads click Afghanistan and then click all. There should be 407 job openings for Afghanistan. Tons of different positions. Most are about 150k+ a year. Tax free on the first 91k.

All you have to do is past a heavy background check and be able to obtain a secret clearance.

  11. Way to make a ignorant statement....lol...living in Bagram, Afghanistan is safer than the majority of cities in the U.S. True Story

Ive been over here for 5 years now. The fatality rate is lower than almost all cities in the U.S. I think in the 5 years Ive been here we had like 4 people killed on Bagram that were contractors. Maybe 3.

Where he's at, it's probably true. Heavily fortified camp. Most of the casualties happen out in the field.

    Bing Bing Bing.

Since I've been here. This is just Bagram for contractors

-February 13, 2006 - An American contractor died of natural causes at Bagram airfield
-March 28, 2006 - An American contractor, working for KBR, died of natural causes at Bagram airfield.
-February 27, 2007 - An American supply worker was killed by a suicide bomber at Bagram Air Base
May 19, 2010 - An American PMC was killed when the Bagram military air base was attacked

    Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...in_Afghanistan

Since the beg of the war in 2001- throughout all of Afghanistan

As of June 12, 2010, 146 foreign private contractor deaths in Afghanistan as part of the War in Afghanistan are listed in this article. Of these, 37 are Americans, 14 are Nepalese and 13 are Russians. 29 of those killed were private military contractors or PMCs.

Obv this numbers are probably not 100% accurate but they are pretty damn close.

  18. TBH. I think I suck at interviewing. My resume is certainly adequate for the jobs I am applying for.

I am working now but am actively looking for a job I really want. Just applied to one in Phoenix(live in Mass now) and after phone interview I got the generic email. Very frustrating right now. I haven't had health benefits since 2008. 300/month for little to no coverage is something I want to afford but can't. I am diabetic too. Which is far cheaper to buy what I need without coverage. Obviously don't make it to the doctor too often.

But whatever I am happy. The fine each year for not having health insurance is not a big percentage of my income so I just deal with it for now. Comes right out of taxes so it's not the biggest deal. Would still love to find a decent salary with benefits at a job I wouldn't mind doing but where are those jobs nowadays?

I think I could get Masshealth but never really looked into it. Feels too much like Welfare. Although I am for Welfare for some people I don't think I need it nor do I really want it ever. A nice bridge sounds better.

Lots of good guides online with the standard interview questions. Just practice those(over and over) and remember to keep your answers positive!

  22. how do u get security clearance? same boat

  23. I graduate in May with my Pharm. D (doctorate of pharmacy)...Already signed a contract with a private hospital as a full-time pharmacist...effective once I pass boards and get my license in the mail...It's been a fun last few years in school, but I'm ready to move on.

I also turned down a full-time position at a national chain; however, they requested I stay on the payroll and "moonlight" 1-2 shifts a month. So, I decided that works for me. I can stay up-to-date with my retail knowledge that way....And I'm not obligated to actually work any of those shifts, I just have to say "yes" or "no" to offered shifts that they send my way....I'm in a fortunate position.../brag

Don't these companies pretty much exclusively hire ex-military people?
  27. They hire a ton, cause its like 350K for company to process a person for a Secret Clearance.

  28. I would say of the people who get hired, 60 to 70% are former military and the people who quit before 1 year are your people who have no prior military exp. I don't want to keep beating a dead horse here because Ive talked about this a bunch. I just posted the website so if your interested take a look. If you are going to apply though, I would apply to multiple positions.
