Ya I did, I read review that the interview was just talking about random stuff and everyone gets the "job". I didn't want to waste their time or mine so I cancelled.
-
I had an interview with the same type of company, and believe me your not wasting there time by interviewing with them, they have a staff and all they do is try to "sell" there job to possible applicants. Its tough getting a legit job in Chicago, I have a bs in marketing and I graduated a year and half ago, and I still haven't found a job in my field that is reasonable with base+commission+benefits. I had to find something, so I settled for a managerial retail position. Which sucks........
-
Not trying to be a dick but there is absolutely no way I would go door for sales so that is why I decided to cancel. If I didn't read up about their interview process (15 mins, not even talking about anything valid) I wouldn't have canceled just for the experience, etc.

Got my law degree 2 years ago from a pretty shit Uni (england if you didn't notice). After graduating I pissed away my first year being arrogant and thinking I would get some uber-job when I decided to try. Starting trying after nearly a year and failed hard. Got my old job waiting tables back in March and have been there ever since, having a really good time if im honest but the money is clearly shit.
Anyway now I'm doing an Accounting course which finishes January 2013 to get me onto a graduate programme ;/ I'll be 25. Spent so long wathcing TV and typing this I have forgotton wtf this thread is about and also wtf my point was sooooo. yeah. -
Alright, I figured I would update this thread since I have some new developments thus far on the job front, also looking for a bit of advice (standard, lol).

The first interview I went on as mentioned above I ended up getting the job. Passed on it because it was sales based with 27k total salary (including 12k for gas/insurance) along with 20% comissh. You basically drive around all day and try to sell companies printers/copiers, etc. It didn't seem that bad however you don't even start to sell for a year after training and then they take your first 2000 in commission. I also figured that since I was basically offered the job after a 30 minute interview they were just pretty desperate for people. Overall the vibes I got just weren't too great so I passed. -
I wouldn't worry about what to do if you landed both until you actually landed both. If you made me choose one, I'd snap take the healthcare industry job. Healthcare is a pretty safe field and there's a ton of upward mobility IMO. You'll hopefully be able to learn a ton about a bunch of different departments as well. I admittedly don't know a ton about digital media but the firms I'm familiar with here locally are generally on the smaller side. While that probably means you'll also get to learn a bunch of stuff, they guys that are really killing it here own their own firms. I have no idea if this apply to your scenario.

Ended up landing the healthcare gig. Had both interviews yeserday, that one went wayyyy better and I liked it a lot more, got the call back today. =)

congrats. you're doing better than me right now haha

You living downtown on that salary? Would love to move to chi like a lot of friends have but don't think I could unless the job payed ~60k.
-
Negative, I am back at home with my dad in the suburbs. City would absolutely kill saving any money and I was just down there for 4 years at school and have a ton of friends that live there so I can just crash for a night/weekend if need be. The commute to this job would be brutal heading back to the city as well so I am fine with the burbs for now.
-
Word, I knew you were back home now but am not too hip with commuting and stuff around there. Congrats on the gig.

Thanks man. Ya if I were to move back now it would be completely in the opposite direction so needless to say I am probably around here for a while unless I end up changing workplaces. City is weird though, sometimes when you're there you want to be in the burbs but when you're in the burbs you want to be in the city. Anyone that has a chance to relocate to Chicago I would highly advise it. People think that it is ghetto/dangerous etc but that is only is certain spots. The nice areas are all an absolute blast to live in. Are you thinking of moving there one day? -
Probably not but Ive thought about it a few times when job searching since I've left college a few years ago. Started a career as a real estate agent 7 months ago and I really like it so unless something crazy happens ill be in the same area for a long time. Nothing wrong with that, close to Ann Arbor and EL for the college scene and Detroit has casinos and a ton of sports teams I like. Can't beat the golfing and lakes in the summer either.

- I have been going to Chicago to party since I turned 21, early on it was like 7-8 times a year altho its been less lately. Pretty familiar with downtown.
Reason: - -
thanks for the offer but I acutally need a federal resume for the government jobs that I've been applyying for. Shit was awful to make so I paid a company to do it for me - it actually looks really nice and hopefully can help me out - got the resume out to a couple of different places now while I'm waiting for the government shit to get back to me.

LOL i was just saying this about my neighbor hood only to wake to the news another body found. making it two murders in ten days to start out the year here. what a shame.

Edited By: Southpaw16 Jan 11th, 2012 at 08:32 AMI graduate in May with a degree Economics w/ a business emphasis (27 hrs). Denver or Chicago are the two cities I am looking at. My roommates are from Evanston and Wilmette and I have been up there once after my freshman year to visit a girl from Glencoe. I love that area up there, but will def be looking to live in the city with my buddies-- who plan on moving back too. I have one friend who graduated last year and his living in Wrigleyville and loves it. We are starting to look there or Lincoln Park. Just have to land a job now. Started to search pretty hard over this break, hopefully something will come. Denver and Chicago are pretty similar cities with the exception of the size difference. Great nightlife, good eats, plenty of babes, nice people. I'll be happy with either, but spending some years in my mid-twenties in Chi has been in the back of my head since high school.Originally Posted by BigEarn7

I'd wager that your friends are pretty well off based on the towns you named, especially Glencoe and Wilmette, hehe. Anyways, Wrigleyville or LP are a blast for sure. There are just so many awesome things to do in that area, be it food or sporting events, concerts or just random bars, etc. You can have the most epic random nights down there. You have started earlier, I would imagine you won't have a problem landing something, goodluck to you.

Edited By: Southpaw16 Jan 11th, 2012 at 08:42 AMhaha yeah those damn New Trier kids. The Evanston kids seem to be a little more realistic on how life works. Everything you mentioned seem to be right up my alley. Hopefully things can work out.Originally Posted by BigEarn7
