    Today is my Mother-in-law's 70th birthday. So, as a present, some crack-head scumbag decided to break into her home, and steal her cash, jewellery, and assorted other valuables (laptop, iPod, etc.) while she and her daughter were out shopping. I guess the in-bred douche-nozzles were on the small side, as they left behind two flat screen TV's. Needless to say she is quite upset at this violation of her home, and the loss of many sentimental pieces given to her by her late husband. I am somewhat surprised, in that I am more angry about this then I was when I had a few hundred stolen out of my locker at work a few months back . . . some people are just using up more than their fair share of oxygen, imo.

    So, OT, make the punishment fit the crime . . .

    Yeah, she's still a little weirded out. Wife had a locksmith come by and reinforce the front door so at least it's secured. Cops were by to take a report but that is about as much as they will be able to do, really. Insurance has been notified, so the $$$ side of things will be okay eventually. Her youngest daughter lives with her, so she won't be alone at all. Worst thing is the feeling of violation that some asshole was in her home, going through her stuff. Very weird too, in what was taken vs. what they left behind. All the jewellery gone, but the digital cameras that were in the open were left behind. Cash taken, but small strongbox that contained passports, credit cards, etc. They left the flat screens, too, which I found odd.

    all the stuff the left has identifying serial numbers seems to be the common theme.

    EDIT: oh, they stole ipods and laptops too. probably just took what they could carry... 1 man with a backpack or something

    at least it was or seems to be the work of a pro. In some weird way i think I would be more comfortable or feel cooler knowing that had it happened to me.
