I got pulled over on sunday for going 51 in a 35 zone. I wasn't going more then 5 miles over the speed limit but that's beside the point. At the bottom of the ticket it asks for "speed timing device operator" he wrote in "self". Fine. He then proceeds to fill out all the information about the speed equipment such as; serial number, date tested, and station at which equipment was tested. The problem with all of this is that he said he clocked me by eye and that they're trained to do that. Dude is sick 51mph by eye lol.
I've heard before that they have these magical powers and are allowed to do that. I just don't understand why he would fill out all the speeding equipment info if he clocked me by eye. He also crossed the "other" box where it asks what was used to clock me. Can I fight this ticket? If it was just the $153 I wouldn't care much but I got 3 points. -
you are gonna pay either way.
-
When is it not a good idea to fight it and possibly have a lower fine with no points. No brainers for 500 Alex
Especially if you dispute his method of recording speed -
Always fight the ticket, never get points if you have the means of paying for a lawyer or ticket center.
-
Yea, youre gonna have to pay, but if you goto court they will usually drop it to something without points and add a few more dollars to it.
-
fight that shit for sure, assuming you have time to go to court and sit around like an asshat all day
-
wtf are these points you weirdos get?
-
its called "pacing" and they actually are trained to some degree in estimating a vehicles speed visually. To how accurate it is, i have no clue. F em

edit: and in your local statute im sure you will find they are "allowed" to pace you -
tx guys.....definitely fighting it....3 points is a lot
-
First few responses ITT are apparently people who don't know what "points" mean. Fight it if you can...
-
Fight it. 51mph by eye...come on. they will drop it. they usually drop tickets around my parts, just for showing at the court house.
I dont know what your points system is but it is worth a shot. -
fight it for sure
i'll go roughly 5 over in a 40 mph but I'm sticking to the speed limit in zones 35 and lower -
find out when the cops day off is, then try and schedule a court date on that day of the week. They fail to show up at a higher rate on their days off. good luck.
-
They are allowed, it's just silly that he would write down 51mph. 50 would've been fine.
-
some states dont have points systems you morans

That is 20 WPM over the limit.
You have been fined 20 dollars. Please PM me for your paypal information. -
Even if you're guilty as hell, ALWAYS plead not guilty to speeding tickets. It will probably get reduced to a parking ticket, a fine, and 0 points. That's just how the shit works, as fucked up as it may be. americafuckyeah.jpg

cops are trained to clock you by eye? yiiikes.guess I learn something everyday
-
The only time I haven't fought a ticket is when I've gotten one out of state.
-
I never knew what points were until I got a ticket in Missouri (a state that has points).
From DMV.org:
Most states (but not all) operate a points system to track dangerous or careless drivers. DMV.org explains the points system in your state, and how to track the points against your driving record.
And apparently I was wrong about Illinois. I've NEVER heard anybody refer to points in Illinois...
Points
The Illinois Administrative Code, Title 92, part 1040.20(c) gives the following point values for these offenses:
- Reckless driving―55 points
- Squealing or screeching of tires―10 points
- Driving too fast for conditions―10 points
- Driving over the speed limit:
- 1 to 10mph over―5 points
- 11 to 14mph over―15 points
- 15 to 25mph over―20 points
- More than 25mph over―50 points
- Exceeding the maximum speed limit in a school zone―20 points
- Driving below the minimum speed limit―5 points
- Driving below the minimum speed limit on an Illinois tollway―20 points
- Not driving in the right-hand lane when proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic―20 points
- Exceeding the maximum speed limit on a bridge or elevated structure―10 points
Penalties
Three convictions for traffic violations within a 12-month period can result in the revocation or suspension of your driving privilege. How long this revocation or suspension lasts depends on the number of points you have accumulated against your license.
First-Time Suspension
If you have not had your license suspended or revoked for the past seven years, these penalties apply:
- 0 to 14 points―no action
- 15 to 44 points―2-month suspension
- 45 to 74 points―3-month suspension
- 75 to 89 points―6-month suspension
- 90 to 99 points―9-month suspension
- 100 to 109 points―12-month suspension
- 110 or more points―12-month revocation
