Got ticketed for 50 in a 35 today. It's my third ticket since 2009, so I'm sure my insurance is going to go up. I'm thinking about appearing before the judge or court and see if I can get it deferred if I don't get another ticket for a year, or hope the cop doesn't show up (not sure if this works, I've heard it has). Just wondering if any of you speeders think there is a possibility of this working, or if anyone else has been in this situation, and what you did. I live in Minneapolis if that makes a difference.

Dont do the crime if you cant do the time.

edit- apparently you have nothing to lose by going... I say go for it. dont be a dick, be nice and sensical about the situation, come up with a logical reason explaining why you accidently exceeded the speed limit. of all my tickets I have fought all of them and everytime it has done nothing but improve the consequences of every one
edit2- say something like youre trying to get your life on the right track and promise him that it'll never happen again and kind of beg him in a humerous way or something to get it deferred and be put on 1 year probation(think thats what it's called) to get it off your record.. I dont know just kind of freestyling right now **shrugs**
or this^^ although I have never thought of doing this nor have I heard results from people ever using lawyers for traffic tickets.. but I imagine that would be your best bet -
Take it to court 100% of the time. It is the government's responsibility to justfy a fine under strict guidelines. Paying tickets with no challenge is dumb.
-
just plead not guilty from my experience about 50% of the time they just nolly the ticket, if not go to court, they will reduce the fine by 40%

tell em the heat made you do it. if they act surprised explain how heat<<humidity. glglgl!

i've gone to court twice. the first time the cop didn't show up so the ticket was dropped, 2nd time they did and I just paid the ticket. when they showed up the 2nd time we didn't go before a judge, just a magistrate...
