Is Josh Hamilton's 10th inning HR last night the most clutch moment in sports history that will be largely forgotten because of the other team coming back to win? What are some of the best examples of this throughout history?
A few immediately came to mind from the teams I've followed over the years, although none of them are on the same level as Hamilton's:
1) Tim Duncan's GOAT shot with 0.4 seconds left in game five in 2004. Of course nobody remembers anything besides Derek Fisher's miracle shot, but Duncan's was far more impressive and should've been the signature shot of his career. The Spurs might have won 4 rings in 5 years had they won that game. And perhaps the craziest part is Kobe hit the potential game winner with like 12 seconds left.
2) Larry Fitzgerald's TD vs. the Steelers in Superbowl 43. Everyone remembers it but it should've been one of the most legendary plays in Superbowl history capping off an amazing 4th quarter comeback. But it is rightfully overshadowed by B-Roth to Holmes, maybe the best play in Superbowl history.
3) Alfonso Soriano's HR in the 8th inning of game seven in 2001. Not as good as Hamilton's but still a potential world series clinching HR against Curt Schilling which would be mentioned among the greatest HRs of all time if not for the D-Backs epic comeback in the 9th inning vs. Rivera. -
Cosign on 1 and especially 2. as a cardinals fans, that play still gives me the chills. was in tampa that weekend, and i would have literally accepted death after that sick touchdown. Fuck, steelers even started off their drive with a holding penalty. some guys have all the luck

Greivis Vasquez hitting a shot to put the Terps up with 6 seconds left to cap a 16 point comeback against Michigan St in under 12 minutes. Vasquez scored 9 points in the last 2 minutes and just absolutely took over the game, and then Korie Lucious hits a 3 at the buzzer. That game might have been the biggest emotional roller coaster I have ever experienced as a sports fan.

Came in here to post Soriano - with the backdrop of the WTC terrorist attacks, to win a Game 7 in that fashion would have made him a hero here.

Endy Chavez robbing Scott Rolen of a HR in game 7 of the 2006 NLCS. If the Mets win that game, that may have gone down as the best catch in baseball history.

On that note, if the Cardinals were the Mets, they'd probably lose like 10-0 tonight after the miracle win last night. -
Wish that shot hit

Z-fresh's first and only catch in freshman football. Play was I-right 202 backs block on 1. If Sully's first and only catch that year wasn't a touchdown 4 plays later my whole life would be different. I could have had a cheerleader which would have lined up four years of confidence with ladies and sexual conquests only the Varsity QB knew of. Sigh...
