Seems pretty incredible to me as if there are no American companies that could step in.... this is scary though on a serious level.. WTF are we thinking.. a quote from the article According to the Wyoming Business Journal, the sale would give the Russians control of up to 20 percent of the U.S. national uranium extraction capability along with a controlling interest in one of the nations largest uranium mining sites.

Def. some scary shit. No idea what Obama's thinking is here...
-
UD's checking dailykos and he'll have a response here shortly for you. Your patience while he checks the party line is appreciated.

You guys realize the Russians already have thousands of nuclear weapons right? What precisely are we afraid of here?
Edited By: Lord Supremo Dec 2nd, 2010 at 06:51 PM
edit: also, is this company shipping all the uranium it mines back to mother russia? Or is it selling it to US nuclear power plants/the government/whoever else the same way a US company would? -
the us govt gave a german solar company a ton of US land and a bunch of stimulus money to construct solar panels in the desert in socal.
why wouldnt they give away more of our resources to foreigners? -
afraid of what i quoted from the article in OP just for starters... I don't get the logic behind this so maybe someone can enlighten me..... its hard to convince me that the uranium will be used exclusively in the US as the the NRC paperwork states that the transfer means the Russian president and the government of the Russian Federation have the power to direct corporate policy and therefore direct activities under the NRC license and license applications for the Wyoming facilities.
-
message Hugo Chavez for details on how to run a state controlled mining and resources industry.
-
it is related to obama's economic and foreign policy... obv cant say 100% obama's fault but he does play a major role..
-
these are not our natural resources, they are the worlds natural resources ldo.

and this is Obama's thinking.
I just have a problem with a country like Russia controlling that much of this type of a natural, non-renewable resource. -
I guess this is the beauty of politics. If the gov't intervenes and doesnt allow the sale of a private company, they are labeled socialists. If they don't intervene and allow foreign takeover of resources, they are called capitalist pigs. Can't have your cake and eat it too.
-
Do any of you "help the Russians are taking over our uranium mines" posters actually know who is in control of where the uranium is going, or are you talking out of your asses/blaming Obama as a knee-jerk reaction? Seriously asking.

BTW, the Indians(feather, not dot) are trying to stop this project. -
Maybe a US company has a chance of buying the mineral rights on land in Russia or China and then selling the mined materials back to their industries. Maybe we can ask Obama or Gibbs at their next presser.
-
LOL at the feather not dot description... no one knows what will happen to the uranium as the NRC ( Nuclear Regulatory Commission) states that the transfer means the Russian president and the government of the Russian Federation have the power to direct corporate policy and therefore direct activities under the NRC license and license applications for the Wyoming facilities. what that means is yet to be determined but i will go out on a limb here and say that it is not in the best interest of Americans to have Russia in control of 20% of OUR uranium production... do you trust russia let alone our govt to make sure the uranium stays in our country?? ARMZ, the company in question here, which is controlled by Rosatom ( who has provided uranium to Iran in the past) will be in a position of control of OUR uranium ... so um, no it is not a knee jerk reaction to blame obama but this is his administration, his appointees, and his polices so just like when people blame bush for everything over his 8 year term, it is just as easy to blame obama esp when his policies =FAIL... it is WAY bigger than obama though, this is about global govt and redistribution of wealth which is CLEARLY not in the best interest of America.. and WOW @ playwithfire saying OUR resources are the worlds... i really hope that was a level, if not, please wake up from your fairy tale....
side note: pretty sure the elections this past November provide a clear picture of the way america feels about obama and his policies... the sad thing is we may have already passed the point of no return as they have jammed through countless pieces of legislation that do nothing more than redistribute the wealth and nationalize our nation... if your still in denial about the way our country feels about obama's policies, wait until 2012, maybe you will get it -
You can stick your "maybes" in a sack.
-
smokey - what you're saying here doesnt make any sense. You criticize the Obama administration for the "redistribution of wealth" and nationalizing the country but in this case you are upset because they didnt nationalize uranium mines.

Are you against the nationalization of resources in your country or do you only want to nationalize specific resources? If you want to nationalize uranium because it is a threat to national security, what about your oil resources, or copper and gold? Isn't that the same socialist policy that you seem to complain about? -
Sounds to me like he is making a point about the Obama administration not prohibiting a Nationalized RUSSIAN company from mining OUR resources.... whatever their intent.
-
so you are saying that natural resources belong to "the country" and not private individuals / corporations?
-
I am not saying that. I am implying that Uranium mining should indeed be heavily regulated by OUR government.
Edited By: XquiziVex Dec 3rd, 2010 at 03:13 AM
Even the most conservative people can agree there is a role for government, and Uranium mining is a trade that needs heavy government regulation...specifically, mining should be done by domestically owned and operated companies for domestic use. -
Xquiz: Please honor us with everything you know about how the U.S. regulates uranium and how mining said uranium by a Russian company undermines that security. Or... just swallow whole some anti-Obama propoganda and fling it blindly without doing anything to show us you know what you are talking about. Your choice

they're taking our yerrrrrrrbs!
-
Fair enough. I'm just playing devil's advocate here. The point being that i hear people complain about the lack of free market principles and in the very next breath they complain about lack of intervention because its a "national security threat".
If for example you were an investor in a uranimum mining company and the company had an opportunity to sell for a huge profit, the free marketers would complain if government regulation prevented the sale. If you put in place regulations that said uranium mines were not allowed to be sold to foreign investors, you as an investor or corporate interest, may not want to invest in such a company and therefore limit the success of same. -
I hear canada is selling oil shale leases to anyone with money. and the ability to get the shale oil. whores!

Edited By: XquiziVex Dec 3rd, 2010 at 03:42 AMI know absolutely jack shit about Uranium mining and how it is regulated.... how about that?Originally Posted by userid363

That said, it doesn't take a fucking mine surgeon to realize that any country with the ability to produce Uranium should regulate the fuck out of it... preferentially domestic companies for domestic use.
At very least, only allow countries who haven't threatened to nuke us into oblivion and/or had a gigantic fucking arms race with.
Please tell me how that doesn't make sense?
By the way I never said anything about Obama (in this thread). This logical assertion goes for any president. Damn, you Obamaphiles are so insecure. jeebus. -
lmao - you know better. Check out all the recent bullshit over the sale of Potash to BHP. Seems like we just pick and choose to sell (or not sell) resources to whoever its convenient to sell to. A little clarification of policies would be nice for the investment community.

Since you seem to be calling out other people when they post their view/opinion, why dont you fucking give your own opinion on this issue instead of calling out other people?
