Police are seeking a man who duped a teller and stole $90,000 by posing as the owner of a currency exchange in Chicago's Auburn Gresham community.
A female teller at a Currency Exchange, 808 W. 87th St., received a telephone call about 5 p.m. from a man who she thought was the owner. The man said an “auditor” was going to stop by the business in a few minutes and would give her a certain “secret code," according to police, who said the "owner" then told her the code.
When the "auditor" came by and gave her the “code,” it matched the one she had been given. The man told her he was going to check the safe, and took the $90,000, saying to her that he was going to count the money and be right back, police said. He never came back.
The owner told police he had a similar incident occur about a month ago at another currency exchange he owns.
No one was hurt and the man was not armed. It was not known whether the currency exchange had any surveillance cameras.
Calumet Area detectives are investigating. -
why is the second owner in " " but the first is not...that confused me...so the real owner never told her a code? only a code over the phone? if so, id blame her for not asking enough questions

That is so simple yet so brilliant. Spend five minutes in a busy currency exchange and I guarantee that you will witness amazing acts of stupidity and ineptitude. Bravo to someone for catching on.
