  1. Well after all the PT and cortisone injections the Dr. has decided to go in again to remove the herniation for my spine. Not sure on the exact date yet, but I will let you guys know when I do. Just hoping for a few of you to add me and my family to your prayers. A little nervous on this one. My first surgery was only about 45 minutes. Neurosurgeon estimates 3-4 hours on this one. Wish me luck.

  2. Dude, you'll be fine. I got my own back surgery (laminectomy) in January, and I was back in the gym, fully healed, by the end of March. I too am familiar with the PT and cortisone instead of surgery routine, it's BS. The surgery made my life liveable again.

Good luck, and hopefully it works out as well for you as it was for me!

  4. Ever seen the movie Awake? You should watch it sometime soon!
  5. hahaha i thought that too at first.

side note: in 2 weeks i have surgery on my deviated septum. since we're on topic...
  6. i too have had a laminectomy, but mine was a micro-laminectomy. it left a 2" scar is all. i took more than 2 months to be very active though. it might be because i also had a discectomy at the same time.

i'm getting my nuts cut in a week if it makes you feel any better. hopefully the Vas= no more kids
  7. I'm having a 2nd microdiskectomy. They are going in the same incision, so I was kind of happy about not having another scar. Any suggestions on excercises afterwards Steve? Did you go through PT after the surgeon cleared you or did you just workout on your own? Im trying to make sure this shit doesnt happen again. Im so sick of being in pain 24 fucking hours a day. Im dying for a full night of sleep and to be able to pick up my 9 month old son. That part is killing me the most. And the percs only give me a buzz, they dont do shit for the pain.

  8. Well, I don't know your situation, but mine was surgery after 6 years with the injury. My core musculature was all unbalanced and funky. When I had my last follow-up with my surgeon, I told him I wanted to seriously get back into weight training and cardio. He told me, if you were going to take it easy, I'd just send you on your way, but I want you to do PT before starting that up.

My PT started in early March, with 5 different exercises that started nice and easy. I could send you the exercises I did, but I would definitely suggest doing post-op PT instead, and let them customize for you.

I was diligent: every morning before work I did my exercises. I was very careful, and didn't start any exercises until approved by my physical therapist. After three weeks, the muscles had strengthened enough to clear me for cardio. 3 more weeks of almost daily cardio and daily exercises, and I was cleared for weight stuff. That was a little over two weeks ago (I also completely overhauled my diet).

Now, my issue is a little different, as my main problem was stenosis, only aggravated by mild herniation. But I was in the same boat as you, with constant pain. Once I got through my 3 weeks of recoup, I haven't had a single pain since.
  9. ^Man thats some heavy shit^ Gl all....
  10. My issue comes from a car accident where I got rear ended sitting at a red light buy a Sears delivery truck. GG Driver. I have dropped 40 pounds and try to walk as much as my leg lets me in an effort to get pretty decent shape before I get operated on. I appreciate the input Steve. I'm thinking of going with the post-op pt. Im trying to find a good therapist, the last one I had actually made me feel worse. Any other advice is appreciated. Thanks again.

  15. GL. You'll be fine. Last Wednesday, my wife had a minimally invasive fusion on L4-L5. She was walking the next day. She's still on drugs and can't drive, but doing fine. You'll have a long haul on recover, but hopefully it will solve the problem. Someone else said it before, but I would recommend a neurosurgeon over an orthopaedic surgeon--better tools.
