  1. If my GF lived with me the entire year, her children and her are dependent on my income and dont pay rent...

can I claim her or them or both on my taxes?

Does that change if she did pay rent?

How is that differant if she does or does not file a tax return? (Im sure she made less than 5k this year (not including child support)).
  2. Not married. Not your kids legally. You cant claim them She will get more money back anyway in Earned Income Credits filing herself anyway since she didnt make alot of money.

  4. There dependants. And theres legality sir.. Honestly she will get more back filing herself and claiming her own kids. Guaranteed.

Oh you can claim her and her kids if she made less than 3500. And her or the kids dad doesnt claim the kids on their taxes..

Im just telling you she will get a better return filing herself with EIC

  6. If they lived there the entire year and you supported them over 50% then yes you can.

  7. only one person can claim them, if shes still your gf let her claim them and share the money since she'll get more.
  8. He can claim her too idiots. IRS.gov look it up
  9. calculate the tax both ways (her claiming versus you claiming) and see which one comes out with the most win?
  10. which scenario nets the two of them more of a return combined?

he claims no one and she claims the kids
she claims no one and he claims all of them?

im not a cpa but i say it's gotta be her claiming the kids.

Than I think you need to take that class over, a dependent is classified as a spouse, a child that is natural, foster, adopted, or step...no where does it state that you can claim a girlfriend and her children...especially if the father is paying child support. You definately need to re-take that course and really read what is said. I know this because I am currently in this class and have the book right in front of me!!
  16. lol wow
  17. somebody opened an account just to tell wowswift she's wrong.

  19. On pg. 8 the links dont work because it was hard to copy and paste it.
    Example 3—girlfriend
Your girlfriend lived with you all year. Even though she may be your qualifying relative if the gross income and support test (explained later) are met, not your qualifying person for head of household purposes because she is not related to you in one of the ways listed under Relatives who do not have to live with youSee Table 4

Example 4—girlfriend’s child. The facts are the same as in Example 3 except your girl- friend’s 10-year-old son also lived with you all year. He is not your qualifying child and, because he is your girlfriend’s qualifying child, he isn ot your qualifying relative Not a Qualifying .As a result, he is not your child or qualifying person for head of household purposes

Seems like you might be able to claim her but not the child so probably better fro her to claim him and herself. I dont really know anything about this stuff just what I gather from reading.

  25. It is more of a benefit to her to file with her own kids as dependents and she'll stack taxpayer money from earned income credit. Lolz American tax system

  26. well since thise thread got bumped I tell u how it played out, i could claim them as dependents but not get the child tax credit. she couldnt get the full child tax credit for not making enough, it worked out to her claiming them by just a hundo.

  27. hmmmmmm, not sure if this rant should be taken as a tacit show of support for Republicans... because we know they would surely support tax reform that would allow you to get a tax benefit cause you're bangin' some other dude's baby momma...
