So tonight I was coming home from the bar with my girlfriend, so we caught a cab.

Background: We were both a little tipsy but not super drunk, so definitely both with it. We also both speak German, so we often speak German when together in front of other people so our conversations are more private.

We hop in the cab and give the cabbie the cross streets of our destination, which are very well known (one is a numbered street, the other is a pretty well known street that any cab driver would immediately know). It should be a pretty simple 2 mile drive, going about 2 blocks north then turning and going across a bridge that runs right by my girlfriend's house. While in the cab my girlfriend and I are continuing our conversation among ourselves in German, when after a couple of minutes we realize we are going a horrible way which will take us a lot longer and a lot further to reach her apartment. I ask the driver where he is going, and which bridge he is going over. He confirms he is going over the wrong bridge, and I ask him why. He doesn't really respond, so I say a few things like "this is a horrible way to go" "why didn't you go over the Morrison Bridge" etc. I then say "You better reduce the fare," and he says "I'll give you a discount."
I feel like he was taking us the long way because he thought we weren't locals and wouldn't notice anything, so I am more upset about the principle then the extra 10 minutes and ~3 dollars (my estimate) in fare. So we reach her apartment and the meter reads 9.60. He says we can make it 8.
I give him 7 and say "I feel like 7 is enough" and hop out. Then go up fuck my girlfriend, watch Glee with her, and now she is asleep and I have a few hours till I can fall asleep.

So what would you do OT? Basically cabbie tried to screw me over, I realized it, and had the power to do whatever I want. Part of me thinks I acted ok, the other part says I should have paid less because he was trying to fuck me over, and another part says I should have just hopped out of the cab and not paid anything to hopefully teach him a lesson.

Also, the money really didn't mean any part of it, I had spent a solid amount at a show already. And my girlfriend agreed that I shouldn't pay full fare and I think would have gone along with whatever I said/did (she definitely is a "for the principle" kind of girl).

Is it worth being a tool cuz you had to sit in a cab with your gf for an extra couple minutes and pay an extra couple dollars? Oh wait, he even reduced the fare and you still tooled out? You didn't even tip him? Ugh I'd like to go off more but that last pic is the love of my life so I'll settle down. Fail tho.

shit i never take a taxi expect when in vegas or something like that and never have heard of getting a ride anywhere for less then 10 bux and normal ride with tip should be 15-20

As for OP, yea def, fuck him, pay what you think you owe and no tip, fuck the cabs who think they deserve tip while fucking you.

Fucking hate this move by cabbies although I'm also not particularly fond of people speaking different languages in front of others. I'm weird but it bothers me so fucking much especially when customers do it when we were just talking perfectly good english. Dick move by cabbie and def not tip worthy. I havent a doubt in my mind if you went the route you wanted you wouldve tipped a couple bucks on regular fare

Absolutely no way I'm paying that whole fare or tipping that cabbie. He thought he could get away with ripping people off and got caught. Fuck that guy. Also, comparing this situation to a waiter bing a little slow is ridiculous. One is purposely trying to take advantage and the other isn't. Big difference.

Voorh33s has to be a level account after seeing the garbage he has posted in OT. The scenario of a server "taking a few more minutes than usual" has absolutely nothing to do with a cab driver intentionally trying to fuck someone over. Tipping is based on service and someone doing you a disservice in the process deserves 0 tip, I don't care what kind of dumb fuck logic you try to present otherwise.

OT has been rather fucked up this morning Posts wouldnt load I relied and could read it but then main page was stuck an hour behind then I log back in and there are 50 threads on first 2 pages all duplicates
