Texas A&M officially joins SEC

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Texas A&M is set to join Southeastern Conference, the league said Sunday, apparently signaling that legal hurdles have been cleared for the Aggies to leave the Big 12.

    The SEC announced Sunday that the move will be effective next July, and said Texas A&M will participate in all sports during the 2012-13 academic year. That gives the SEC 13 members and its first addition since South Carolina and Arkansas in 1992.

    The Aggies' defection from the Big 12 had been held up by the possibility of legal action from Baylor and other members, who would not waive their rights to sue the school and the SEC. The statement released by the SEC did not mention that situation, and spokesman Charles Bloom did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

    I really can't see the SEC staying at 13. They'll add at least 1 more before next year.

    Congrats Aggies...

    Mizzou's Board of Curators are holding an unschedule meeting sometime this week, presumably to discuss conference affiliation. Mizzou fans have been flooding the Curators and Administration with emails pleading for a jump to the SEC. The support is there for a move, its just a matter of the usually risk averse leaders at Mizzou to make a bold decision for the good of the future of the University.

    In all honesty I think Mizzou fits in better with the BigTen.

    This, plus Mizzou is an AAU school. The SEC highlighted TAMU's AAU status. Its something the presidents like.

    Plus, we may not be great but we're definitely positive additions in both football and basketball.

    yea for some reason i thought the state of missouri was more northwestern than it actually is lol. and the bball and fball programs are very solid.

    I had never heard TAMU as an acronym for Texas A & M. What do most people who go there call it? A and M is what I would guess? or say TAMU like the name Tammy but with a U on it? that sounds kind of cool.

    we say a&m, sometimes TAMU....like shamoo, but with the tam. Wowswift looks at our helmets and thinks ass To mouth...wonder why? in our school song, spirit of aggieland, we refer to ourselves as Texas A-M-C...c for college...the AMC logo is much tighter on apparell...but all in all, it is a&m.

    Yeah, only jersey I have from living in Texas is whatever you call yourselfs.

    I just don't agree or see this at all. SEC weakens, why?
