Texas Gov. Rick Perry says his alma mater, Texas A&M, and the SEC are discussing the Aggies possible future membership in the league, according to a report in the Dallas Morning News.
Perry was asked by reporters from the paper on Wednesday about recent swirling speculation surrounding the move.
"I'll be real honest with you. I just read about it the same time as y'all did. ... As far as I know, conversations are being had. That's frankly all I know. I just refer you to the university and the decision makers over there." -
We need them in the SEC to become what Mississippi State once was.
-
It's gonna happen. A&M supporters have been unhappy about staying with Texas in light of the Longhorn Network... they want free and clear of Texas. Other Big 12 schools will all say they're committed, then as soon as A&M bolts, it will be a free for all with the other schools bailing fast and hard to conferences they can slide into. Wouldn't be surprised to see OU, OSU and Tech in the Pac-10 or Pac-16 or whatever it becomes. Texas may end up as an independent.
The Bevo 10 - soon to be Bevo 9 - will unravel. -
Also heard of someone from ACC coming in to even the SEC divisions up which they would be added to the east and A/M to the west...
-
Top 3 or 4 in the Big 12-2 and now gonna struggle to make bowl games every year (if this happens). Smart move.
-
Worked out well for Arkansas after the SWC, eh?
-
but this move doesnt make sense unless SEC can keep divisions even so they need to add another to the east...so who is that gonna be?? I just dont see A/M being added by itself and making the SEC 13 teams...
-
SEC will snap call A&M and figure out the structure when they do... but it's not even a decision by the SEC, it's automatic. It gives the SEC a recruiting in to Texas high schools.

As well as an in to the Texas media markets I should also add. -
that could give A/M a good recruiting base and could take some recruits away from Texas who would obv wanna play SEC over Big 12 but I doubt it does a whole lot for other SEC schools except maybe LSU and Arkansas...
-
I've heard that VaTech would be the team thats considering jumping into the SEC East

it's massive for the conference as a whole from a growth standpoint in television, and definitely for recruiting for Arkansas and LSU.
-
this would make a lot of sense and could set up a pretty big rivalry with the Vols...been wanting some turkey lately...would be nice if we could get the Bristol thing set up for real this time...annual, like gaytors/dawgs in Jacksonville...

Blame Hamilton for that. The guy that owns Bristol Motor Speedway put some insane amount of money on the table for BOTH schools (something like 10 million each) and VT agreed but Hamilton pussed out

true or untrue, i dunno

but heard that texas has basically been raping the rest of the conference for years, and everyones sick of it, why nebraska and colorado took off, missouri was trying, somewhat surprised a n m isn't getting some love bein a fellow texan team but yea big 12 could be gone soon.
or maybe texas renegotiates with the rest of the big 12 after a n m or another team leaves and brings in some more but yea big 12 days are looking numbered
story from last year but same type secnario

***Edit, fuck I was wrong. It was 20 million each but the game had to be played in November because it needed to be after some gay Nascar race. Hamilton refused to make changes to the schedule

FUCK, that'd be an insane recruiting tool. Bring some kids in for that visit and tell them that once a year they're going to play in front of 160k +

I think its something A&M likes to flirt with cause they think it gives them some sort of power or leverage. they're in the shadow of texas and they like to use jumping to the sec as like their ace in the whole. its like a bargaining chip to them. We'll move to the sec. we're gonna do it. we're not in your shadow texas. we have options. dont fuck with us. i mean its a possibility but i think for the most part it just makes a good threat that more than likely wont be acted upon
-
i think you're right except for whats happening with the longhorn network pushing people to actuallly making the threats no longer idle
Edited By: tekiller Aug 11th, 2011 at 06:02 AM
also it depends on what happens with the network according to that above article no cable or satellite has subscribed to airing it so if the network flops this may disappear -
i think i heard on the radio earlier today texas offered another texas school a game on the longhorn network. im pretty sure it was tech and they declined. after that they offered one to OU and im not sure what their answer was but I think it was no as well. im not sold that the network is gonna work. yeah texas is huge but not everybody in texas cheers for the longhorns. there are other schools in the state who dont give a shit about texas. a huge majority of people in places like lubbock and college station dont care about texas. they hate them. and then texas is offering them spots on their network. yeah, help us make some money on this network so we can rape you guys some more. help build our brand more so we can take more money from you. its not flying with the other guys

More recently, we had "good relations" with the SEC, but no formal offer. That combined with, iirc, texas not being able to do their network if they went to the pac 10, helped leverage us, a mediocre program for the last 10 or so years, into getting the same amount of money in the tv contract as oklahoma and texas. The rest of the conference got significantly less. This, i felt left the mack 10 on faulty ground.
Bowen Loftin (president) and dollar bill, bill byrne (A.D.), caught a lot of flack from avid fans and rich alumni for not opting for the SEC. Byrne recieved an email from a former student, stating he is canceling his season tickets and that byrne must have his tounge up deloss dodds' (texas A.D.) ass. Byrne made local news by responding to said email by leaving a voice message.
Aggies calmed down after we found out we got equal money and for once are fielding a team with potential for the upcoming season. We threw our efforts into supporting the team and all the SEC talk was under the rug.
Then about a month ago, i don't know why no other schools made news on this, our board of regents had a meeting. On the docket was the longhorn network. They were gonna try and broadcast an additional big 12 game and high school games of potential recruits. Our BoR was like, bullshit! We aren't gonna deal with this unfair recruiting advantage. Texas and the network backed down so no high school games can be shown and the additional game was put on hold as well.
Which brings us to now, the story surfaced again, because Gov. Rick Perry was asked a question. I heard the story tonight. I am not taking any stock in it as of now. He was asked a question and he answered, paraphrased, "it was talked about, ask the board of regents." I took it as, there is no new development.
The way the conference is right now, it is doomed to fail, but i don't see it happening this soon. I'd love to be in the SEC with an annual game against texas and baylor, and two on, two off with tech (that kind of schedule would sell out every game). I just don't see it happening within the next couple of years. -
georgia tech returns to the sec in the east.
i just made that up but im sticking with it. -
i thought florida state was the choice, but that florida would try and block so they could be the only frlorida school in the SEC. I also read oklahoma, but, like us with texas, it is hard for them to split with Oklahoma State.
-
OSU wants tie themselves to OU, and I think the most logical scenario would be the Pac-10 for both, along with Tech and maybe Baylor. But OU to the SEC is a possibility, and just playing an annual non-conference game against OSU, as would Texas and A&M.

I personally think OU will avoid the SEC - the only thing it would do for this is add a perpetually brutal schedule - something that A&M is going to find out about really quickly if they move. -
I dont think the SEC is looking to add someone who is about to get the banhammer in basketball...lol, jk, sorta...
-
fans aren't scared of the schedule. We know we will take ass kickings. we have premiere facilities, and we can be in THE conference, playing huge games every week. Eventually, i think this would be lead to better recruits, and making us competitive.

Hopefully OU isn't too far behind in joining the SEC.
-
texas could slow roll us with their own SEC offer. but i think there is an SEC network?
i have nothing bad to say, about O.U., Nebraska, or Virginia Tech fans.
I've had complete respect and fun from all! -
yes there is an SEC network...and if I had a choice, I would not want OU...
