  1. Who would've ever thought that requiring welfare recipients to work, would actually help reduce poverty? The Democrats certainly didn't. Wow! What an amazing concept. Yet another example of a failed liberal policy (welfare). Have you thanked a republican today?

  2. Hey, I am ALL for welfare recipients to be required to work, or be actively seeking work. I think that is an issue that is non-partisan.
  3. Ditto.

    Get it right.
  4. I work for the government, and I PROMISE you that requiring people on welfare to work is NOT non-partisan. There are a LOT of people who think they shouldnt have to work. They are the same people that think we should give illegal aliens breaks on their college tuition.

  5. From the constituents point of view I think it is, considering that I lean left, and have nothing against the work demands for welfare.
  6. Thats possible, but then again, I live in MA, a state that is so liberal, its almost communistic.

  7. Bill Clinton signed the legislation that ended "welfare as we know it." Thank a democrat.
  8. Bill Clinton vetoed the first two bills and signed the third one kicking and screaming (all of them proposed by the Republican controlled Congress by the way, as part of the "contract with America") and against the wishes of fellow democrats. Read some of the quotes from Democrats at that time that said it would be a failure and children would suffer. They were all wrong, as usual. Bill Clinton wisely signed the bill to get reelected.

  9. ummmm, ya right, its non-partisan, ok
  10. I don't think it was just the welfare bill that gave Clinton the edge over BOB DOLE! That was a landslide, even with Perot taking away blue votes.
  11. Not non-partisan in congress dingleberry, non partisan with the constituents, ya know, the people that power a democracy.
  12. Perot ran in 92, not 96.

And that's all I have to say about that...

  13. So when a Democrat signs a good bill its a bad thing? I praise good bills signed by Republicans, just like I deride bad bills signed by Democrats. Your attitude is a good reason why there is so much partisanship in the US.
  14. Didn't say he wanted to sign it, but he did. The Contract ON Amerika,,,20 million uninsured can't be wrong. TAX AND SPEND!
  15. ...and here I thought I lived in AmeriCa.

  16. I believe it was both actually
  17. Jericho,

Do you still believe that at the time it was non-partisan? It was anything but non-partisan.

It is non-partisan somewhat for now because it has actually worked thus far. Like I said, thank God for republicans.

  19. Could you post the results of the expansion of stem cell research legislation that W just vetoed? I believe it was nonpartisan.
  20. didn't clinton do some shit that they had to receive training so they could eventually get a job? im a republican, but i've never met a democrat that was a huge fan of welfare. its something that no one likes to see abused.

welfare is one of those things that will never go away. i understand that some people need it, but there are other social security programs that make me more upset then welfare
  21. who exactly do you want to work more Artie, for instance, who do you think gets the majority of welfare in the U.S.? You may want to google this one.
  22. "REPUBLICAN'S OWWWWWNNNNNN!"

Want to own everything. That's part of the God-damned problem! haha.
  23. He "don't wanna go there."
  24. i know who gets the welfare! w00t, i wrote a report on it kekekeke im certain things haven't changed since back then
  25. expansion of access to education and job training are traditional democratic initiatives. Unfortunately, they take money away from the military so they recently have fallen out of favor.
  26. Artie what you are saying is tired. In fact I believe its misinformed. Welfare is not this nations problem. Access to opportunity is.

I was talking to my brother in law who likely shares your opinion, though he is a racist (I doubt you are), he brought up this crap about welfare. I said, "your mother is on welfare, how hypocritical of you to say that". He says "you don't know what you are talking about". "She lives in a subsidized apartment complex", that is welfare. Technically Student Loans are welfare, farm subsidies are certainly welfare and what was Bush's big solution to the 9/11 problem when the stock market was falling, corporate welfare.

What we need Artie is better schools better business initiatives. The have's need to realize that the have not's are willing to work their asses off to have and not be threatened by it but invest in it.

Welfare is the least of our problems. The real problems that we have are all over the front pages. What we need are stronger communities with better schools. We need to quit dividing and focusing on right and wrong. I am first to admit that everything I say is not absolutely law.

Also, who doesn't get welfare and who makes those decisions? Admit it, you don't think the government should provide for anyone, you probably don't think that is the role of government. Most Have's think that way.

Here is the funny thing about Have's most of the people that think they are Have's are actually Have not's that have been sold a bill of goods. Traditionally the South is Republican, almost all of those states live below the poverty line. So as far as I can tell this great Republican plan isn't working in the place where your base is strongest.
  27. Do you disagree Beanie?

edit: My question was posed right before your last statement
