Foulke gave them one good year before completely imploding. But I can't argue his value to that WS team. So I'll concede him.

    How about Curt Schilling?

  4. If Theo builds a team that wins the WS, does he automatically ascend into heaven to replace Jesus?

If you're the GM of the Sox, and win a WS after 86 years, and then go to the Cubs and win a WS, you are an absolute lock for HOF.

Theo is a HOF simply cause he took the sox there, and WON.
  9. Hi, my name is John, and I'm a Cubs fan.

The attitude of suck needs to be gone. I hope he comes in with a rather large broom.

    Dunk: LOL

p.s. moneyball was not very good. kinda like batting your pitcher 8th nonsense.
  10. leave it to a New Englander to clean the shit that is a Chicago team
  11. I hope he fails miserably.
  12. just read on twitter it's not compensation hanging things up, but who he can take with him.

Still think I rather have Fielder. Theo, Francona, and Fielder would be a nice offseason.

  18. i just don't feel he would fit in w/ ownership. he's to much old school and wouldn't follow the whole concept of 'carmine"

and obv he's to much of a circus for a mgr/gm.

  19. there's zero chance that epstein would make a serious run at pujols or fielder.

god that was funny... was he suspended or fined for that?

dude is the director of public safety for stamford, ct... donates back his yearly salary too
  23. Finally, he has been the missing piece for decades, now we can focus on being the usual winning franchise that we have always been (franchise record is > .500) without a GM getting in the way. Problem solved!

also, ending this "Theo never signed a good FA" debate with two words:

    Big
    Papi
  25. Another promising executive or manager probably ruining his career. GL Cubs though, hopefully the curse is over.
  26. does anyone know what a president of baseball operations is? it sounds like some mix between scouting director and owner. Is it just a way for him to be GM without dealing with the day to day hassles of being a GM? Seems like a weird situation for Hoyer to get into since he will never get the credit if they start winning.

pretty much like the next step up from GM, answerable only to the owner, I would think. All personnel decisions will have to go through him, but he wont have to do all the little day-to-day things a GM does.
  28. It probably also insulates him from getting fired for a few years. He can offset any Crawford like signings to his rep by firing the GM. Great signing by the Cubs and actually hope they break their jinx. Cubs fans deserve some joy.
  29. Theo won't go after Pujols at all. If you read/listen to Simmons at all he makes a great point that before ownership got up Theo's ass to make moves (Lester, Crawford) he was great at going after players who were before their prime and not sink money into players who would be very soon past their primes.

Pujols was talking about a 10 year contract when he says he's 30 (at least that's what Albert claims), no way Theo sinks a ton of money into a guy who will make 20+ million a year when he's 36-40. Maybe a 3 year deal but not anywhere near 10.
