  1. Secret signals from distant probe Has Voyager 2 spacecraft been hijacked by aliens? With a golden record on board, it left the Earth 33 years ago.
NASA installed the 12-inch disk containing music and greetings in 55 languages in case intelligent extraterrestrial life ever found it.
But now the Voyager 2 spacecraft is sending back what sounds like an answer: Signals in an unknown data format!
The best scientific minds have so far not been able to decipher the strange information – is it a secret message?
    Flashback
1977: NASA fired the unmanned probe, weighing 722kg, into space. It contains instruments, transmitters and the golden record on which are stored people’s voices, nature noises (such as waves and birds) and 90 minutes of music, including Mozart and Beethoven.
It has flown past Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune – and is now heading off into infinity. Its signal – which takes 13 hours to reach the Earth – has not been broken off.
2010: The signal changed for the first time on April 22. A technical error from the distant transmitter? No scientific data has been sent back since.
Alien expert Hartwig Hausdorf (54, ‘UFOs – They Are Still Flying’) said: “It seems almost as if someone had reprogrammed or hijacked the probe – thus perhaps we do not yet know the whole truth…”
  2. so which is it? there or here?

  7. interesting
  8. It would be awfully polite of aliens in our outer solar system (kuiper belt or we) to find and hijack a probe to let us know they are there rather than just proceed to earth.

Seems much more probable that the transmitter has either been damaged or reprogrammed by someone on earth.
  9. I can't imagine that a government made device might have a bug once it gets 8 billion miles away.

been telling people for years that I am on an intergalatic mission of peace

maybe now they will believe me peace and love aliens not war
  11. Too bad they sent this probe off in the '70's. This 'golden' record has no '80's hair bands (G'n'R, KISS, Motley Crue, Poison, etc, etc).

If anything is ever discovered by this probe, it will be the best project to date. If nothing is ever discovered by the probe, then it will be the biggest waste of tax dollars.
  12. or they figured wed freak out without some kinda warning?

whats likely to be a less of a freak out, aliens landing on the ground saying sup or them sending a message that takes us a while to figure out that says sup well be there in a while after you decipher this message?
  13. If aliens actually greeted us with "sup" I'd probably die from laughter.
  14. 99.999999999999% chance the reason the signal changed and then stopped is either:

    1. It ran out of batteries, thus when the batteries were aaaaaalmost but not quite completely dead, the signal got fucked up and was slightly different from before in it's dying moments due to the lack of electrical power from the batteries.

    2. It struck a small meteorite and thus the signal got changed/damaged and then stopped due to the damage to the spacecraft from hitting something

0.0000000000001% chance it actually got found by aliens.

Although there is a 99.99999999999999% chance that there is alien life in our universe, the chance of them finding earth or The Voyager Spacecraft in our lifetime is only like 0.0000000000000001% due to the insanely huge SIZE of the universe.

Curse you and your rational thinking!
  16. ...and that it was sent into space 32 years ago!
  17. i like how they said hello in 55 different earth languages...because if aliens did exist, they would know any language at all that we speak.

i hope aliens are real! and i hope they're nice!

  18. They were able to capture our 32 yr old computer and change the programming. Must be they have windows 9.9 or vista. We are screwed.

Voyager 2 is already one of the most successful missions in history, getting images and data on all four gas giants + moon systems. Anything we get from here on out is icing on the cake.

The cost of both Voyager 1 + 2 for the lifetime of their missions is ~ 900 million. (1972-present)

We spend that in Iraq in a day.

    Aliens almost certainly exist.

They also almost certainly have never visited us.

And given how many different civilizations of intelligent alien life there almost certainly are across the entire span of the Universe, there are almost certainly both nice aliens as well as mean aliens, and everything inbetween.
  21. nah, i like to think that aliens have macintosh.

but the fact that they can change the programming means they must be at least on pace with us technologically....or it took them 32 years to figure out how to change something....so they could be wayyy behind
  22. Pretty sure anything capable of interstellar travel is light years (pun intended) ahead of us technologically.

The biggest problem with the NASA-haters is their lack of comprehension of what "spinoff technology" is.

It is almost UNFATHOMABLE how huge of a chunk of all of Earth's current modern technologies are a result of spinoff technology from NASA projects.

There are so many modern technologies in the medical field, and in the consumer market of just everyday electronic things and technologies that would not yet exist if it weren't for being accidentally discovered how to make so many of these things as an accidental side-effect result of the insanely difficult/advanced/complex technological work/research/designing that NASA workers do whilst working on their projects, aka "spinoff technology" as a side-effect result of their projects.

People don't seem to understand this, and it's very VERY very very sad that they don't, cuz it's EXTREMELY extremely important to the technological progress of the human race.
  24. if they mastered space flight id say theyre very intelligent so it is more likely it would take them 32 years to dumb themselves down to our level

Are you nuts how else would they have planted us on Earth to be their slave race to mine gooooold??? but no seriously I think they have been here atleast a long time ago and taught some of the ancient civilizations a thing or two.
  26. my conspiracy theory is that there will continue to be stuff like this put out there for people to begin to believe that it is very likely aliens exist and even begin to believe that aliens have came to earth.

so when the gov't decides to announce that they know of alien life it wont create as much hysteria as it potentially could. they are prob in phase now of planning how they are going to make the announcement and if it will involve the appearance of "mother ships" to people around the world.

after posting this i assume this will happen to me -

    but then the truth -

  27. so you know how the president gets to look at all the top secret files of the US? i think we nominate someone from OT to become president and then they can violate the code and share all they know with us!!!!!
  28. You sound like a nut.

However upon coming to Vegas my father was stationed at area 51 for 2 years and won't tell me a thing about it. Not a single thing. He's a huge talker as well. So /shrug.

  30. He doesn't get drunk.

I don't have any sodium pentathol on hand.

    I'm not that interested.
