Well I am thinking about purchasing a tablet.... messed around with the samsung galaxy and toshiba thrive today... I am liking the Thrive.
Anybody have any opinions/recommendations on tablets?
Not interested in iPad by the way -
Big Chief ftw
-
How's it going Dad?
-
I guess I should update my 'Major Dilemma' thread huh? Lots of news and changes... will update soon
-
Since you are not interested in the best, I am sure any of the other second rate tablets will do.

Posting from the Thrive now. I love it. Best $179 (Black Friday) I ever spent.

just get a cheap small laptop.

I've had the Toshiba for a while now. I bought it over the others because at the time Samsung only had 7 inch, Acer and Asus were similar but no USB host support.
Toshiba doesn't charge via USB which is a shame, but the full size USB and HDMI ports make it great for watching movies on bigger screens. I keep a few movies on the SD card for the commute in to work and I use my phones tethering app to get internet when I want it.
Love the Toshiba
Toshiba
Pros:
USB host port (full size USB20. with full access + charging of phone when connected)
Full size HDMI for connection to TV/monitor and 1080p upscaling
IMO slight;y faster screen response than Acer or Asus (can't comment on Samsung)
Good support from Toshiba
Cons:
Won't charge via USB but I think none of them can full charge if they can at all only drip charge.
People keep asking why you didn't get an iPad and when you give them all of your reasons which are completely reasonable and make sense to any logical person with your needs they say "yeah I'm saving for an iPad2" -
Depends on what you want to use it for and how much you want to spend. The Galaxy and Asus eeepad transformer are both very good tablets. For the money the Flytouch 5 at $180 is a very good tablet, however there are lot's of knockoffs floating around.

Does anyone in OT have a Kindle Fire yet? Waiting for 2.0 for a bigger memory, but curious if any of you actually got one.

Sorry guys... I dont touch Apple products.... I despise the brand... sure they work ok, but they dont have the capabilities I need.
179$ for the thrive is amazing! I wish I got in on that deal!
I may buy the Thrive tomorrow.... $400 tax free at staples, sound good? -
I completely agree.

Fuck Apple. I have never bought their junk and I never will. I tried out the iPhone for a couple days and I was back to the Droid in no time. -
ive been looking into getting one as well. makes it easier to look at porn while laying in bed.
ill check out thise thrive -
I never would have bought an ipad, but I ended up winning one. I probably haven't used my laBtop in a year. Granted, I probably would have been the same way with some other brand of tablet.

Oh, I thought this was going to be a drug related thread.

It's trendy to buy Apple products and it's trendy to hate on people who buy Apple products.
Oh my friggen head make it stop. -
16 or 32BG for $400?

Oh and I assume you're only talking about 10inch tablet right? -
Wait...there are still people out there who don't think that apple makes the best products?
I can understand not wanting to pay the premium but unless you are a computer genius you are never going to understand the true benefits of buying an android product. -
Love my Kindle Fire. I hardly ever use my laptop anymore. It is more of a toy than anything else though.

Well, you can use it for business actually, but lack of keyboard makes it less optimal for any formal writing. -
I have an iPad but got this cause the ipad is such a closed system that there is not much I use it for.

I have not used it much as my wife has claimed it to play on Poker stars.
I love it but I am a Windows guy -
Went to Staples to excited to buy the Thrive.... unfortunately out of stock.... being delivered friday.
PATIENTLY WAITING.... sigh -
I just got the HP Touchpad. They got a bad rap, but it's a pretty slick tablet. It's powerful and fast. The Butler service is kind of cool, which is free for a couple of months after activation. I missed the $99 firesale, but they are still going for $250 or so on Ebay.
