The odds of such an odd occurrence? One in a million

OMAHA, Neb. - The odds are against something this odd.
A Nebraska Lottery official says the winning numbers for the state's Pick 3 lottery on Tuesday were exactly the same as the winning combination from the night before.
Lottery spokesman Brian Rockey says one of two lottery computers that randomly generate combinations picked the numbers 1, 9 and 6 — in that order — for Monday night's drawing. He says the other computer picked the same three numbers Tuesday in the same sequence.
The odds of such an occurrence? One in a million.
Rockey says one person won the game's top prize of $600 Monday — but didn't win again the next night. Three other people won Tuesday's prize.

It's only 1 in a million if you are looking at the probability of 1-9-6 being drawn two drawings in a row. Since it's making news that after 1-9-6 was drawn, it was drawn again, that's one in a thousand

I don't know if this was ever "news" per se, (or if it's been posted in OT before) but this is math idiocy at it's finest. Basically, a guy was quoted .002 cents per kilobyte by Verizon, but he was charged .002 dollars per kilobyte. This audio is his telephone call with several different people from Verizon where he tries to explain that he was charged 100 times too much, and they DON'T UNDERSTAND. It goes on for about 30 minutes (all of which are worth it), but all you need to hear is 3 minutes before you want to bang your head against a wall.

We don't take kindly to actuaries around here.
