Going in less than a week to Gran Porto Real - Playa del Carmen all inclusive with the GF for her bestfriend's destination wedding. Anyone been here and/or have any tips or words of advice for us?
I am curious what the tipping protocall is at an all inclusive...
Do I tip for every drink like if I was paying cash at a bar, or do I not tip until the end of the trip? What about for dinner?
Thanks for the input! -
Oh shit here we fucking go.
-
all inclusive means no tip required
-
Make the bartenders dance for every dollar you tip them. They love that.

20% of zero = 0 ask any server in OT and they will say that it is fair.

I actually asked one of the water sports guys about this when I went to Sandals. He said they can actually get fired for accepting tips. We gave some tips, but very very discreetly and never when anyone else was around. These people are very lucky to get a resort job and I would never want to cost someone their job.

Wait, so it's hard for them to get these jobs but u still tipped them discreetly KNOWING that they cld get fired? What if the little girl then had to move to Thailand and sell her body b/c u just had to give her $5. You should be ashamed !!!!

Are you stalking me? I think you are! I have an OT stalker. I'm so special!! Weeeeeeeeeeee ;) Since you're my official stalker, please explain to me how you pronounce your sn? I have my own way, but I'm not sure it's correct.
Anyway, I know you're kidding, but for those that don't, we ONLY tipped when there was zero chance of anyone seeing it. So, please, no worries about anyone being forced into prostitution as a result of our generosity :)
We became great friends with the water sports guy. He was so awesome! He took us to a place that he said most of the other tourists never see and that he typically doesn't take people when they go out sailing. He took us to the island where Cocktail was filmed. It's a place where the salt water and fresh water converge, so it was hot in one spot and then it would get cold if you moved a few inches. I got married at the resort (unfortunately lol), and I had a beautiful bouquet of flowers that I couldn't take with me on the plane, so I gave it to him to give to his wife. He was a super nice man. Anyway, he was one of the people we tipped. I should post some pics. -
ecugirl, padding her post count...

Shut it, both of you! And bite me, too :)
-
lolol Damn it! I was hoping! :(

Answer is in the title. Ask what the policy is.

For all inclusive resorts, we always have one dollar bills handy and tip a dollar or two when we get a drink or have a meal at the buffets. Some of the a la carte restaurants give you really nice service and we tip a few more dollars there. You don't have to go overboard with tipping but a buck or two goes a long way to getting better service from the bartenders, wait staff and maid service.

Depends on how you want to.be treated. I normally just keep lime $50-$100 in 1's and tip a Buck for most everything g and like two for a meal. By the end of the trip I have gotten treated like royalty anytime I Have done that.

I always tip a bartender a $5 or $10 right away first drink..and then again at the end of the trip.
Same with one of the cooks who are in charge of "late night." (these guys get a $20)....as they also have access to alcohol.
The last all inclusive I went to, you weren't allowed to have booze in the food area from like 4am to 7am, however, the cooks on the nightshift held a bottle of rum and rye behind the counter, and would pour me and whoever I was with drinks.
Even though I'm at an all inclusive, I'm there to have fun and be taken care of. I allot about $50-$60 for tips to make sure I have the best trip as possible. I'm not stingy and believe in the motto, "Caskets don't have pockets." So I make sure I'm good with my money, but still have fun with it.
Too many people just save and get nothing out of a life of work. I've done more by the age of 25, then most have by the time they're 65.
Have a sick trip. Take topless pics of g/f and other bridesmaids obv. -
I bet he tells everyone that, just like the girls in Thailand don't do THAT with just anyone, but for you (current customer) they will!!!

Oh... you mean they like getting tips when they get the people to like them? I see... -
Just read the resort's tipping policy. Some don't allow tipping, and some actually encourage you to tip. If it's allowed, it's better to tip as you go than wait til the end - it will net you stronger cocktails, better service, and such. Usually.

Yes, he very may tell everyone that. Obv that thought crossed my mind. He was still very nice, though, and we enjoyed getting to know him.
