1. I would have my list with K, Roy, Boeheim, Pitino, and Izzo with honorable mention to Donovan, Barnes and Calhoun. Obviously I am missing some good ones, but I like my list..whats yours?
2. bilf self..coach K..ben howland..roy williams..jim calhoun..
3.
Geno Auriemma
edit: I had no idea how to spell that guys name.
4. Roy Williams
Coach K

both deserve on the list, after that there about 5 or 6 i wouldn't be able to decide between
5. gary williams

until he finishes this contract at 65 (2 years more), sigh.
6. rick barnes is a really good recruiter, but not much else. hes had a lot of talented teams go nowhere in the tourney.
7. Cal turned Memphis into a powerhouse. By far best recruiter out there. He will have the best recruiting class in the history of basketball next year once Wall signs.
8. Tom Izzo, Coach K, Roy Williams, Calhoun, pitano.
9. 1. K
2. Pitino
3. Izzo
4. Calhoun
5. Self

Honorable mention: Donovan, Calipari, Howland, Boeheim

LOL @ Barnes and Roy Williams even sniffing the jocks of the people on this list.
10. K, Calhoun, Izzo, Pitino, 5th is up for grabs

holy fuck I agree with 3B (though Boeheim is interchangable with a few others, IMO . . . top 4 are undisputable . . and the Barnes/Williams is also undisputable. )

also good coaches...Jim Boeheim, Billy Donovan, Mark Few, Ben Howland, Jamie Dixon, Bo Ryan, Tom Crean, Bruce Pearl, Scott Drew, Matt Painter, Dana Altman, Lorenzo Romar, and I am sure I missed many

edit: Bill Self, Coach Calipari
14. I did a last second edit, forgot about Self. But you could put any of my hon. mentions in the top 5 and I probably won't disagree with you.

This....You can argue on the order of the 2-5 guys...but there is no doubt these are the 5 guys and that Coach K is #1
16. ya, I hate Kansas so much that I want to leave Self out, but the last couple years have been very impressive. I think I give him the 5 spot over Boeheim at this point.
17. coach k is a joke and is ruining college bball. any coach that coaches flopping and drawing fouls by jumping into defenders doesnt deserve mention in the top 5. gawd i hate duke

clownshoes. Duke teams consistently play harder/tougher/more aggressive defense than pretty much anybody. getting a team to buy into aggressive defense and never relaxing is the best thing a coach can do IMO. thats why I'm starting to like Mike Anderson so much at MU.

Sure Roy is terrible, he's won the last 4 in a row at Cameron.
But hey, at least Duke will have a chance for a 3rd loss this season to UNC, if they can somehow make it that far this weekend.

clownshoes.

I agree with the posted lists

1. K
2. Pitino
3. Izzo
4. Calhoun

but think that perhaps not right now, but eventually, Mark Few belongs in the 5 hole. that is all.
21. Izzo

Got to meet him last summer at our friend's wedding at the Kellogg Center... (randomly passed his entourage in the hallway)

he's short.
22. I absolutely hate UConn and loathe Jim Calhoun, but there is no way he is left off an active top 5 list. I am pretty ambivalent about Roy Williams, it's just that he gets by on massive talent that usually way underproduces. His NC in 05 was due to the fact that a virtual NBA starting roster played for him that year.

Anyone who doesn't put Coach K at or extremely near the top (for whatever reason) ought to quit watching basketball forever.
23. #1 Russ Pennell (First time being a head coach and he manages to take Arizona to the big dance even with Arizona's entire incoming freshman class switching to different schools when they found out Lute wouldn't be the coach)

#2 Ben Howland (Best coach in the country, and only reason he isn't #1 is that Pennell's accomplishment was so obscenely unexpected)

#3 Lorenzo Romar (Second best coach in the country)

#4 Jamie Dixon (Third best coach in the country)

#5 Rick Pitino (Fourth best coach in the country)
24. always been dissapointed with Rick Barnes idk why.........

Ben Howland not getting ne love???? making it to the final four last 3? years is pretty tough esp with all the turnover UCLA has had during that time

Barnes is a great recruiter, but can't coach.
26. Gary Williams is the best coach in college basketball
27. Calipari overated, couldnt get his team to hit a free throw for NC
