  1. I have been coaching a kids basketball team since April and we have been travelling around Ontario playing in all of the streetball tournaments. The next on the list is the NBA/Rogers/Raptors tournament at Exhibition Place in Toronto. Anyway, we have corporate sponsorship but I don't want to take advantage of peoples generosity and would like to find reasonable lodging for the team for the weekend. We would be coming up Friday afternoon and staying through to Sunday and would like a place within walking distance to Exhibition Place and it must have a pool.

On a side note, alot of times when we come to Toronto, we park in Missisauga and take the Kipling Subway into town. Does the subway get off anywhere near to Exibition Place (within walking distance) because that would be an option as well.

The tournament is on the 25th-27th of July so I need to get the information to our sponsor so he can book the rooms by the end of this week. Any help that anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if any OT'ers happen to be going down there to watch or are playing in this tournament shoot me a pm. My kids absolutly love basketball and we could come cheer your team on or vice versa.
  2. PM Scha about finding good hotel rooms with kids in tow
  3. With Yogi Obv...
  4. i not in TO but i do know the subway/go train has a stop at exhibition place.
  5. America.

    hey-ohhhhhhhhhhhhh
  6. WHOA EASY THERE FLASH!!!! I am NOT Scha-Like in any way!!

not that there's anything wrong.......oh never mind there IS something seriously wrong with that!! haha
  7. There really are not any quality hotels around exhibition grounds.

Do a google search for Hotels around Skydome, then you can just hop on the King st west street car or bus to get to the exhibition grounds, its like a 5-10 min ride depending on traffic ...you could walk it but it's not the safest part of town at night.

    Start with these

  8. The subway def. has a stop within a short walking distance to the main grounds...depending on the age of your kids you may want to think about something up near the top of the North/South line. You will have quick access to the 400/401 series hwys...1/2 hr subway into the downtown & Canada's Wonderland is like 10-15 mins bus/cab/car ride away. Lots of food places available as well.

No the Subway runs N-S on University and Yonge St and E-W only along Bloor st.
The closest exit to Exhibition Grounds is St Andrews along the University Line and that's right around the SkyDome. So like I said you would have to use the KING st W Street Cars to get to Strachen Ave where the Entrance is. The Bloor st subway is to far north.
  10. Thanks for the replies so far. Another question..would it be just better to stay in a hotel maybe 15 minutes drive west and then drive down there both days? The reason I ask is because every hotel downtown seems to want $20 or more for parking each day..and because of check out we would have to pay for parking at Exhibition Place anyways ($11) on Sunday so would it be better to stay farther away (maybe 10-15 min drive) and pay for parking there each day? How bad does traffic get that way during the day?

Figure by the time I pay for the Subway (there is 16-18 of us total going) and then pay for the streetcars for everyone..it may just be better to pay for the gas to drive. Added to what I will save paying $20 or more a night for four vehicles each, plus the $11 for four vehicles on Sunday at the tournament.

My only concern was the traffic on the weekend in that area of the city.

  11. Access via Toronto Transit (TTC):
    1. Take the Bloor subway to Dufferin Station and proceed to street level. Board the #29 bus south to Exhibition Place.
    2. Take the Bloor subway to Bathurst Station and proceed to street level. Board the #511 streetcar south to Exhibition Place.
    3. Take the Yonge-University subway to Union Station and proceed to the Queens Quay platform. Board the #509 streetcar west to Exhibition Place.

There are many ways to get there...as is the case for most destinations in this city. I am also well aware of where the N/S & E/W lines run having lived in Toronto for all my life. However, it would seem that your instructions must be the only viable option so I apologize for my ignorance, and for even thinking about presenting a different option (close to one of the other main attractions in town) to the the visitors from St.Thomas/London area who will be coming in/leaving on the 401.
  12. I don't think you would pay to transfer onto the streetcar but you may want to ask Zodiac...his knowledge of the TTC is widely known throughout the city
  13. The Delta Chelsea is right downtown and has great rates for toronto.

friends who came into my wedding from the states recently used priceline and i believe got the delta for as low 75/night (normal would be 200-250)

Pm if you want info on toronto, but i know absolutely nothing about missisauga , in fact i dont even know how to spell it :(
  14. Royal York ;)

but seriously I liked the Holiday Inn on King. Its a real nice place and a great location. Right downtown, walking distance to skydome, ACC, convention center, Wayne Gretzky's restaurant, you dont really need public transportation, your already there.

Plus they got a 12th floor swimming pool, and I was there when they had the international fireworks competion.
