They are in town this weekend and I think I'm gonna grab tickets it really looks awesome.
For people who have been:
- How did you like it?
- It seems like the type of thing where being a little ways back from the stage might be better with all the lights and theatrics sometimes being up close can take away from that. Do you agree? I can get nose bleeds for like $40 a ticket and it's like $90 a ticket to get like 20th row, doesn't seem worth it at all to buy anything other than the nose bleeds.
- Post your favorite song. -
The ex wife and I went to see the christmas show in vegas a few years ago and we got up and left about half way though.
-
yeah that sounds boring.
just take the same amount of money and go to a sex shop. you'll have a better time, guaranteed. -
Seriously? What didn't you like about it?

Are you not a music fan in general?
Edit: To StingMyChps not the other dude. -
Went last year in STL, and the show was awesome.

I have no idea how you would not have a good time...awesome stage that drops down from ceiling...pryotechnics all over the place...great music...people who know how to interact with a crowd.
I was actually thinking about grabbing tickets and going with the wife's parents in Chicago for the show you're talking about...didn't work out tho.
Go and enjoy the show. It's a good time.
EDIT--we had seats at the ScottTrade Center that were about 6 rows back from where the boards would be in a hockey rink. Their stage was big enough that it covered like 3/4 of the ice, and when the guitarists would come down for a solo, they were only like 20 feet away from us. I dunno how you really like to watch, but I thought being close was pretty awesome. I've never sat far away tho, so I don't really know. I do know that if you're sitting close, some of your arm hair might get singed from the pyro shows--dead serious there. -
been twice. great time.
the two times we've been, we were pretty close to the stage while being to the left of it (lower bowl, one of the first sections on the left if you're looking from the perspective of the stage). i think we'd be better served to be farther back, but more straight-on. i'm sure the nosebleeds will be fine. -

Easily my favorite song of theirs...Carol of the Bells. But it's also my favorite xmas song, so I'm a bit biased. This will give you a little taste of what the show will be like (obv live video).
I'll give them a shoutout on their version of Christmas Canon...the a capella singing is really, really good. -
I've seen them live twice and both times I walked away mesmerized. I would def sit back a little because they do some cool things w/ lasers and when they get into the story mode you want to be able to see the whole stage.
BTW, best song!

You sure you went to a TSO show? I just can't imagine walking out on one of their performances.

Paul O'Neill, Jon Oliva, and Al Pitrelli? The guys who look like Italian mob bosses??
Agreed on the song...I always thought it was called "Carol of the Bells" tho? It's titled Christmas Eve/Sarajevo on that one. It's the same song I posted above, right?? -
Thanks for the responses, I'm definitely gonna go and I think I'll just sit nose bleeds. I do love being close for guitar solos but I go to about 10-15 concerts every year and am always right by the stage so I get plenty of close interaction with great guitar players.
Fuuuuuuuuu just noticed Alex Skolnick was one of the guitar players up until a few years ago, that would have been a huge bonus, I love Testament and him as a player. -
On the album its called Christmas Eve/Sarrajevo 12/24. But when you go to its wikipedia page it is described as "An instrumental version of Carol of the Bells"
-
went last year in houston, doing it again this year.
Get blazed b4 you go -
this was exactly the song that came to mind instantly...I will whistle the shit out of this song I love it so much. And I am in the same boat as the OP. I think I will go with the nosebleeds, I just can't imagine I need to be that close for this kind of a concert

Been watching videos the last hour pretty excited. This one is pretty awesome:
Love the mix of hard rock and classical music. People don't understand how much classic rock/metal was influenced by classical music and how "heavy" some classical stuff is. -
Just saw the show last week. Had 2nd row seats. Was amazing. If you like music lasers fireworks and hot women. Then you will like it.. Enjoy..
-
saw em last year at the thomas and mac center (unlv). the stage extended half way up the lower bowl seating on both sides of the floor. they had hanging stage extensions that went out into the crowd another sixty feet. don't sit close. we sat in the upper deck center cut.
get ready for the WOW effect. -
I looked up tickets for them, and it says they are in Raleigh, NC next weekend. In my Chicago thread, you said they were in town...and your profile says you are in Illinois. I are confused.
Splain? -
Weird they must have two separate groups. They are in Chicago on December 3rd as well as Greenville, SC. Then Raleigh and St. Paul on December 4th.
-
duh, they have two touring troops and only tour at christmas time.
Edited By: Stockage Nov 28th, 2011 at 03:19 AM
not sure which troop i saw
Reason: clarity -
Hopefully the good one comes to Chicago
-
go. you will not regret it. it's awesome.

It just didn't do it for me. Im a huge music fan and a guitar player myself. We checked out the youtube videos before we paid the ridiculous ticket price and liked what we saw. But the show was just....off. They kept cutting the music and this creepy cancer man voice would come on and wrasp out this christmas tale for like 10 minutes after every song. The guitar playing just seemed soul less, they didn't move around, just stood in place and fingered out the same tired solo's they do night after night. They were like factory workers pressing out the same part all day. I wouldn't recommend sitting in the back, maybe the show would have been better if we were right under all the pyrotechnics and lights, but from the back is seemed small mundane and weak. We did also just see Hellyeah, otep and bloodsimple at the house of blues so maybe that spoiled us...

You probably had the bad group, I'm assuming they send the good one to Chicago. I just saw Priest, Lizzy and BLS, if I am trying to compare it to that I will obviously be disappointed.
