not a lot posted on this, but it is interesting.
Euphoric Libyan rebels raced into the capital Tripoli on Sunday and moved close to center with little resistance as Moammar Gadhafi's defenses collapsed and his regime appeared to be crumbling fast.
Associated Press reporters with the rebels said they moved easily from the western outskirts into the regime stronghold in a dramatic turning of the tides in the 6-month-old Libyan civil war. A rebel leader said the unit in charge of protecting Gadhafi and Tripoli had surrendered and joined the revolt, allowing the opposition force to move in freely.
"They will enter Green Square tonight, God willing," said Mohammed al-Zawi, a 30-year-old rebel who entered Tripoli. Green Square has been the site of night rallies by Gadhafi supporters throughout the uprising.

nothing special to add myself, but this overturn of government has been quite long building (civil war) compared to the other local countries in the arab uprising.
tomorrow/monday they should conquer the capital and begin a new process. all in all it's quite a sight id bet.
(i continue to hope something like this uprising happens in nicaragua in november, im hoping to be here for elections but shit is messed up) -
Progress
and democracy -
captured Khadaffi, good for them
and how many pages until this becomes a 10 person e-fight about some stupid shit? -
I'd like to be happy for them and think positive, but unfortunately those who manage to assume power out of these violent rebellions are generally the strongest and most ruthless and the least democratic/freedom oriented.
Hopefully the people of Libya will succeed in gaining their freedom and a chance for democracy from all the suffering and bloodshed they've endured. -
Hypothetical revolution:
If the people of the USA decided the government is no longer acting in our best interest, or any other of the many reasons to overthrow the government, how do you think our government would react? Military force?
With all thats going on in the middle east, with the people uprising against their leaders in several countries, and the US quick to support the opposition (as long as they dont have nuclear weapons), I can only imagine what would happen here. -

Protect and defend the constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. -
Tough to forsee what will happen. Hopefully the violence will end soon, probably not though.

What is the over/under on amount of time before we start bombing Syria now that we have ousted Gaddhafi? 30 days?

They wouldn't react because the decision makers wouldn't be in office anymore. Overthrowing the US govt is just a matter of persuading fellow citizens, then culminating in participation within the system already in place. I understand your scenario is a hypothetical but it's almost hard to imagine. We control the government and the military.

First of all I think its quite apparent they arent acting in our interest any more. Look how much "money" they have and look at the quality of life of your average american. Our well being is obviously not the goal here.
@Precedent It would be nice to think we can just walk down the streets and take shit over but the reality is that if protests began they would call the cops. If the cops couldnt handle it or rebelled against them they would call the military.
The military could easily give the power back to the people whenever they choose but most of them are too blinded by money and pride so they will continue to fight illegal wars at the cost of themselves and the people while the constitution is being shredded to pieces. -
In theory.

When the US falls it will be from within, lets just hope it doesn't happen in our lifetimes
I've been waiting for a while to watch the video my friend made in Libya, last I heard they were still editing, but he told me they wouldn't release it while Gaddafi was still in power. Hopefully it will be good and can share it here but I have absolutely no idea what kind of quality to expect. -
The U.S. government can not be overthrow by civilians protesting, they would need the support of a certain % of the military. Hopefully that will never happen in our lifetime. The only other reasonable scenario I could see it happening is some sort of global virus, (spanish flu x 10) that killed a good portion of the population

Just another sad day in dick-tater ship 101.

Tip to future rebel groups: when you claim that you've captured 3 of the former leader's sons, make sure 2 of them aren't spotted walking around free while the words are coming out of your mouth.
And nice touch that they claimed to have Seif al-Islam - only problem being that he was sitting with Khadafy troops in the hotel that is housing the Western press at the time. -
It doesn't really matter, they're going to win soon anyway.

Yeah, but it still is pretty funny that they are announcing the capture as fact while the guy is sitting there in the media hotel. Rebels gonna rebel
And even if the rebels are gonna win out in the end, it will definitely give the Khadafy troops a second wind, and allow them to rally supporters by dismissing any rebel news as bullshit.
