I've decided that I want to actually try and follow the Premier league, so first things first I feel like I need to randomly pick a favorite team and just blindly pledge my allegiance to them. However I kind of want to cut the top 4 teams from that list just so its not like jumping into baseball and liking the Yankees just because they win a ton.
Is picking almost strictly off of how awesome their jerseys are unacceptable in this case? Should I just find 1 random star that I like on one of the teams and call them my favorite? This is pretty important stuff, I don't want to accidentally get stuck with like the Pirates of the Premier League. All suggestions are welcome -
you dont wanna pick the Yankees or the Pirates of the premier league?
you're already a homer -
u may want to pick a top 4 team tho, bc u will be lot more likely see their games on tv.

i think it is ok to pick one of the better teams, unless u have a connection to a lesser team that would make u pick it.
im an arsenal fan btw. i picked them bc i remember watching highlights of them at their old stadium. liked how close the camera was to pitch and liked their style of play a lot.
maybe watch as many games as u can in next few months and see if a team stands out or u connect with, read about them on their websites and then pick one by the last few weeks of season, so u can maybe get in on the excitement of a league title run.
i would also suggest, since u are a casual fan, to make an attempt to support a mls team as well. any support the mls gains will help to attract better talent to the league. also u may then find that the mls team u choose becomes affiliated with a club in premier league. i know some are.

since you excluded only the top four you can pick Chelsea and watch them play incomprehensibly below their talent level the second half of the season.
you really should watch the games from the top four teams though, they are playing some of the best football in the world and it's really a pleasure to watch them. -
1. put all team names in a hat
2. close eyes, pick a name out of said hat
3. ?????
4. profit -
SPL
Glasgow Rangers. Fuck Celtic. -
go pick up Fifa 11...

mess around with some teams, get familiar with some players and a team will fall to you, believe me. I'm an Aston Villa supporter thru Fifa series and after further research am happy w/my choice despite their recent struggles. Also, Tottenham is an exciting team to watch, Fulham has an American starter so that's worth rooting for them, Villa's keeper(s) are american, as well as the owner. Man U's owner as well i believe is american. Just some potentially helpful things to pick to a team and cling.
If Man City doesn't count as top 4 i really enjoy their players, as well as Liverpool since they don't go top 3 anymore and i'ma big Dirk Kuyt supporter. -
I strongly suggest What Amslim is saying and support your local MLS squad(just noticed your in micigan feel free to jump on board with the Toronto FC instead of chicago)
If i were you i'd try and follow a couple squads who you may have interest in and watch a few games and decide from there IMO just saying for example Arsenal is now my fav team doesnt really make sense find a reason or a player you have a particular interest in -
i randomly did this, this year and picked Blackpool for no reason..never even heard of them before...they are doing really well for their 1st year in the league...

Most fun and frustrating team to watch. I was at the Chelsea game on Monday. Best game I have ever been to ainec. They are one of the top 4 but it has been Chelsea and man utd for a few seasons. Supporting arsenal wouldn't be jumping on the bandwagon or anything. We haven't won a trophy for 5 years. Hopefully that should come to an end this season with at least the carling cup but still, just support arsenal
Oh and don't pick liverpool or I will forever think of you as scum, and you don't want that obviously -
I definitely will jump aboard with a MLS squad as well. Something like Chicago or Columbus maybe. Also I've heard potential talk of bringing an MLS squad to the Silverdome in Pontiac which would naturally be perfect for me but that was just some random speculation I think.
I've been playing a lot of Fifa 11 lately which is why this is all coming up. Arsenal are interesting and def could be a good choice. Fulham with Dempsey also makes a lot of sense and I do like their look a lot. I might go the route Amslim suggested and just watch a few games and go from there instead of picking now. -
Pick the Spurs . . . maybe you'll have better luck than I did when I did the same thing years ago. I go into the EPL after meeting my (future) wife's Dad. He watched the games every Saturday morning, so it was an easy way to have something to talk about. The year before, Newcastle had managed to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League. As they were the new boys on the block, I decided to pick them as "my" team. They have been a complete mess on and off the pitch ever since.

the best thing to do if your not going to just pick arsenal straight away is to just watch some games and you will naturally lean towards a few teams and then narrow that down to 1 team. thats how i ended up supporting the patriots in nfl

an American guy partially owns Arsenal, same guy owns the Nuggets, Avalanche, and Rams

dont choose the red devils... all they do is play to draws this year
-
Definitely feeling Tottenham after reading some of those links. I'll watch a few games and see what style sticks out and commit but I think I'm down to a small handful of potential teams.
-
Hotspurs a nice choice :D:D:D
The columbus crew have a fine thing going in MLS and would be considered TFCs fiercest rival in MLS I'd go that route over chicago -
I did the same thing this year. Went with Tottenham. They're on Fox Soccer Channel a lot and I didn't feel like I was jumping on the bandwagon.
Plus....
BALE -
Pick Liverpool and have your heart broken every year for the rest of your life
(In before Nick condemns all liverpool fans to hell) -
Play Fifa 11 and find the EPL team you do work with and theres your team....But if you don't wanna be a bandwagon, go with a team like Sunderland, Everton, or Fullham (U.S player Dempsey is on this one)
-
Might be able to watch some EPL live right now - I have Chelsea v Bolton on FSC.
I guess I'm in a similar boat, but I don't think I'm in a hurry to pick a team, just enjoy some games as I catch them.
Although rooting for Tottenham Hotspur to beat out Arsenal this year would be a lot of fun. -
Sunderland bitches! Darren Bent is a beast and they have Welbeck on loan this year from United. They're a fun team to watch and have the skills to pull an upset from time to time. Read some quick history about them (especially why they are the Black Cats)
-
Chelsea getting some nice calls in this match.
