Meh. Not sure about value. If Rampage had a decent camp, he may have a puncher's chance, but I'd take Machida. BJ has been weird/unmotivated lately so I'd stay away from him. If his head is on right, he beats Hughes. Really like the Sotiropoulos/Lauzon fight. George has been on a tear since the show, but Joe always puts on a good fight.
In other words, I don't have a bet I like on this card. -
I like aaron simpson at +145 and if you wanna make the ME more interesting I'd throw some on rampage too... when was the last time rampage was +240?
-
This card sucks. Paying 60 bucks to watch 2 fights that I could care about. Then both of them will be snoozefest decisions. There is your bets. Bet they both go to decision. Cannot wait til they get the lighter classes in the UFC. Aldo is ready to bring the pain.
-
The main event is one of the most interesting matches in the most interesting weight class. Co Main event is to settle the score between two of the greatest ever. Phil Davis is lurking in Jon Jones' shadow and has the potential to be champ, can't wait to see him fight. Geroge Sot vs Lauzon is pretty much for a title shot and both guys are always entertaining.
Not the best card ever but definitely one of the better ones imo. WEC merger is gonna spoil the shit out of us I can agree with ya on that. -
Machida wins this fight 10x out of 10. His style is a perfect matchup for a short-mid range boxer like Rampage. He might win by decision, maybe by KO, but he's gonna win for sure, LOCK it up.
The only other bet I like here is maybe some value in Falcao as an underdog - he is an unknown striker, 25-3, with all but two wins coming by KO in the 1st round. The other 2 wins were 2nd round KO. So imo it's a pick'em between him and Harris, and the bookies are offering +225.
Also, this:
-
Gonna bet Hughes,Sotiropolious,Machida
Hughes is a great value with a BJ Penn who has not shown up to fight in a while and Hughes Will finish Penn mark my words(and I can't stand the guy and was a BJ mark for years) -
I like Penn and Lauzon.
-
-Machida is going to pick apart Rampage (especially after Jackson gases after Rd 1)
-I think BJ is going to get his first win of the year. BJ still seems hungry, and Matt is just trying "to bring another check home to my wife". BJ has better stand up these days and Matt won't be able to take him down to use his size over BJ.
In both fights I think it comes down to the guys that are fighting to get back into contention, against the guys that want to pick up one more big check before the call it quits...again. -
If i recall correctly didnt penn get worked over hard in his last fight, while hughes absolutely destroyed his opponent in his last fight? so gg penn, and hopefully rampage gets worked over like all you are saying he will...also where does this fight cost $60....its only $44 here on time warner,, split that w/ a few friends and it becomes a cheap night of beer drinking and watching people pound eachothers faces in

The UFC is only $45 on comcast. Me and 4 friends get it and its like $10 a person for a good night of fights. Definently worth it for me.

Lol, Penn got worked. I think" franky the dancer " danced around and manipulated the point system. Such boring sh1t, bj brings it and always looks to finish, not dance around and let it go to the judges. Bj is going to finish Hughes on Saturday. I got $$$ on Penn and Munoz.
-
I agree with you that Penn got handled in his list fight and Hughes did well in his. But you have to look at who they were fighting. Hughes beat Ricardo Almeida, who is an amazing grappler but not a quality MMA fighter. He has thrown 309 attempted strkes in his career, someone so one dimensional against a seasoned hall of famer like Hughes should get owned. Matt hasn't been in the ring with anyone close to their prime since fighting GSP in '07.

BJ fought the current Lightweight Champ who is much more a complete fighter and definitly in his prime. BJ has been in "real" fights much more recently than Hughes and I'm a firm believer that iron sharpens iron. If BJ's conditioning is where it should be than he should do well against Hughes.
But as we've seen time and time again anything can happen in the octagon. -
quoted for homer

Yeh I big part of this fight is gonna be about Penn's conditioning. I really believe he needs to leave Hawaii and go to new camp like ATT or Black House. I think that would help out his career alot.
-
I've thought Penns camp has been his weakness for a long time too. He has so much natural talent that he's been able to get away with it for a long time, but it's catching up with him. If he would go to a different camp for even a month I think it would him a lot of good. But I don't see him leaving HI anytime soon, if he was going to I think he would have already done it.
Sidenote: If you haven't seen the youtube vids on GSP greasing during his fight with Penn check it out... -
rofl awesome logic, you must win heaps betting mma, tell us more

Penn + Black House is scary... they all love him there to I wish he'd pull his head out of his ass and join up. -
It's definitely not worth a huge wager, but as an underdog pick, I think it's worth a little action. Harris is a beast, but so is this Falcao cat, who has a rediculous number of KO's on his record, so good chance he clips Harris. I'm not saying he's a favourite, but it'll be a fun fight either way, and with these bangers there's usually more volatility (aka puncher's chance) than the bookies lines would suggest.

not sure why GSP is known as the golden child.......

It is because he doesn't run his mouth. He goes and fights and wins. He seems gracious in winning and losing.
-
Never heard him referred to as the golden child before but the name seems quite fitting actually.

Squeaky clean image + good, respectful attitude + 2nd to none work ethic + impressive results = golden child -
its the nice polite ones you have to worry about. too many fighters have accused him of cheating......
-
I think im going to make a small wager on Falcao also. Gerald Harris is a quality opponent but with Falcao as big of an underdog as he his, he has a chance to KO Harris. I also think Dennis Hallman is worth a small play against Karo. Especially with the problems that Karo has been going through the past couple years with the anxiety and pain killer addiction. If he comes out looking like he did at the last Impact FC card Hallman will beat him. I just feel like Karo's head isn't in the fight game anymore and he is just doing for the paycheck.
-
Whatever, this thread isn't about GSP. It's about Penn coming in 15-20 pounds lighter than the WW GOAT and murderin dat ass.
-
ww goat? he is fighting gsp again?
and he's 5 lbs. lighter, he just said yesterday that he is at 165. -
It's fair to argue Hughes as the GOAT, at least until GSP holds the belt for a little longer, anyways... I'd probably cast my vote for GSP, but Hughes had a ridiculous run in his prime.
And while Penn is 5 lbs lighter, Hughes is gonna rehydrate a good 10 lbs after weigh-ins, so he will likely have a 15 pound advantage. -
Fully hydrated no cut 165 is way more effective than a cut to 170 and then rehydrate to 180.

Quoted for insane fail.
You realize the average weight cut of every fighter at any weightclass (besides heavy obv) is 10-15 pounds right? Does everyone do this to be less effective? LOL jesus.
Alves fights at 195+, GSP fights in the 190s now, etc and you should be banned from ever talking mma if you think matt hughes has ever fought sub 180 at welterweight. He's a wrestler, he's been cutting weight his entire life.
The only people I can think of that don't cut more than 5 pounds or so are frankie edgar, diego sanchez at WW, penn at ww obv, urijah at fw, and maybe rashad evans. -
What i'm saying is they both usually have to cut. They want to have the 185 size and strength but fight at the lightest weight possible. BJ makes no illusion as to needing the bigger size to fight. He's a freak. That quote you just had me for is for BJ Penn specifically and isn't true for most people. If he got up to 180 just to cut I don't think he'd be better at all.
