Lesnar will fight again and so will Penn, they aren't done yet

I think Overeem kills JDS. Just don't see the advantage JDS has. The fight for heavyweights will be Mir vs Overeem. Stylistically I like Mir in that match-up. Valezquez will probably get an opportunity before Mir and has a shot at winning. But I just think Overeem is too big/strong for Cain.

Oh Brock will "fight" again . . . in 2013 at Wrestlemania.

But this logic assumes that the grappler gets the striker down. Some guys are insanely difficult to get to the ground.

While I can fathom grapplers losing to strikers it really makes more sense that the grappler is going to win the lions share of the time. I mean, space taken away means the striker can no longer strike means advantage grappler. It's a lot easier for the grappler to bring the fight to the ground than it is for the striker to keep it standing. It makes a lot of sense. -
Edited By: PoWdA Jan 1st, 2012 at 08:01 PMThis becomes more and more true everyday with the evolution of MMA but look at UFC 1, 2, and 3. Why did the strikers lose? It is the same basic idea only the fighters are much further evolved at this point. I'm not saying grapplers are invincible or something but if some guy wants to tackle you to the ground that is pretty tough to defend and in a lot of cases the grappler is going to get there at some point. With the evolution of MMA strikers have learned to stuff takedowns and drill the shit out of them so it gets harder and harder for the grappler to get those takedowns but it is still a fact that once that distance is gone that striker is fucked.Originally Posted by TiltinShoes

Also, interesting stat from the Nick Diaz fight, guy has the highest accuracy ever vs Cerrone:Nate Diaz put on quite possibly the best performance of his career last night at UFC 141, defeating Donald Cerrone via unanimous decision after three rounds thanks to relentless, laser-like striking, accurate enough to set a CompuStrike record for a three round mixed martial arts fight.
Diaz landed an astounding 82 percent of his strikes, connecting on 258 out of 314 punches. After plenty of pre-fight trash talk from both competitors, the fight, unsurprisingly, never hit the ground.
By contrast, Cerrone -- who is one of the better strikers in the UFC lightweight division and who possesses a kickboxing record of 28-0-1 -- only landed 33 percent of his strikes as he landed only 66 out of 200 attempted strikes.

Right, but by the same token, while the distance is there, the grappler is screwed. That is the point I was making. the question isn't which strength is superior, but whether or not a fighter can stay out of their position of weakness. It is what gets me about people that try to act like strikers are inherently effed. If they can keep the fight standing (and there are several good strikers that can) they are at an advantage. Fwiw, I don't care about either side of the grappler v striker coin.
My original point was simply that some guys still can't fathom that there Are some strikers that are favorites in almost every fight they take. We aren't in the UFC 1-10 card days anymore. -
I can fathom it, I just think its less likely and was the reasoning for me betting on brock in the fight (which was of course interpreted as me sucking his cock but whatever). The whole reasoning is worthless though when the grappler goes out there and tries to be a kickboxing hero.
Now looking back, was this one of the worst gameplans of any fight ever? I know it's wise to set up the TD by striking for a minute or two but he literally let go of a single at one point, its like he wanted to keep striking...wtf? oh well, JDS/Reem might be the most exciting fight imaginable. -
It actually pissed me off that he only made one half attempt to take him down. wtf was he thinking?
