    It's kinda long.

    I think we should just change the name to America.

    I wonder if you are required to go through some kind of revolution or major war etc in order to change the name of your country, or if it's like people names where you can shorten your name from Johnathan to John when you get bored of the extra two syllables.
    That would be cool if it was the same rules as people names.

    Then we could change it to America, which would be way simpler.

    We should get a sponsor like Microsoft. They can help pay down the national debt and in return we'll rename the USA after them.

    "America" refers to the whole of the two Western Hemisphere continents North America and South America, not just the United States.

    Ummmm no.

    The 50 states that comprise the "United States" of America are called such because they are answerable and subordinate to one federal government.

    The other countries in the Western Hemisphere have no such alliance and are therefore not among the "United States" of America.

For all you know, Hugo Chavez would use this as a rallying point to sway all the Latin American countries (probably Canada too, those fuckers) into communism and start a war with us. Last thing we need is enemies not separated from us by 1000s of miles of ocean imo

    Nah, he's too busy nationalizing a bank at the moment. Too bad a lot of his human capital left and his natives are growing restless. I haven't busted on Chavez in awhile.

    no. the united states of america is a simple reminder that we are not just one country with one way of thinking, we are a country of many states with opposing views on many things but when it comes to national defense, we unite.

    actually to some in the world we are "E.E.U.U" or something like that, i think thats the latin speaking languages. obv "united states of america" doesnt translate into words that form the acronym "USA" in many countries of other languages. but hell, we call every other country by something other than its real name (spain=espana, germany=deutschland etc).

    But no other country uses America in their name. When your in Brazil and you tell someone your from America they don't ask "which country?".

    What is your nationality if you live in United States?or Mexico? American and Mexican respectively, not American and American.
