President Obama intends to release a budget tomorrow that creates a 10-year, $634 billion "reserve fund" to partially pay for a vast expansion of the U.S. health care system, an overhaul that many experts project will cost as much as $1 trillion over the next decade.
Obama would pay for the expansion by trimming tax breaks for the wealthy and tightening payments to insurers, hospitals and physicians, according to a senior administration official.

Way to go Obama! Now we just gotta make sure this gets pushed through congress and has a clear goal of turning our system into a single-payer one as soon as possible. -
gg best healthcare in the world
-
hospitals which focus on money and collecting bills > hospitals who only focus on helping the sick or injured?
gg logic. -
"helping people" is the best motivator? gg logic indeed. maybe if we make medical school "free" then doctors won't have loans to pay off, and everyone can work for the poor, hooray! and everyone knows the best medical technology is developed by humanitarians. err
-
lol.
-
God please no. I sure hope not.
-
What is this administration going to bailout next month when everyone is already bailed out?
-
put me on the list for every procedure then. hate to be like those poor bastages in the UK and Canada that die while waiting for their procedures. Oh and btw, the best doctors will move their practices to the Bahamas and so called filthy rich will still be able to get better care. Maybe Obama can ban foreign travel to prevent that as well. We can HOPE!
Try an experiment tonight at 5pm. Go to the post office to mail a package and then try the UPS store. One trip will cost you an hour and the other will cost you five minutes. The price for the UPS store will be $1 higher but will save you an hour. How unfair! We should def run the UPS store out of business. -
the WHO is a commie organiztion hellbent on the destruction of america by demoralization through rankings, but at least we're ahead of slovenia... got a ways to go to catch saudi arabia, though(which has nationalized health care).
-
If government control of the health care industry is ideal then why not for other basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter?
-
so you would prefer to be treated in saudi arabia than the in the us, right?
-
depends on how much money/insurance I have, and how tough to treat the condition is.
-
just wondering out loud, will the government also carry the malpractice insurance that has driven up the costs or will they just not allow malpractice suits? interested in how this will play out. Maybe our lawyers will stop taking these suits and people will stop frivolous suits, yeah, that's probably what will happen.
-
that would moving all the way towards socialism, which would not happen here any time soon because of the negative stigma attached to it.

but some things here are socialized(schools, police/fire, libraries) and work out quite well. i believe health care is next and would like to see insurance follow.
also, thank you for entering a real and thoughtful discussion. -

Just thinking outloud here....can you imagine the amount of savings a company would have if not paying for healthcare? got to be a trade off somewhere there... we do have universal education that works fairly well! seems like it could be done, and if you can afford it you can pay for private doc's just like priveate education!!
-
well that's where i got confused, i didn't realize we weren't going to have to pay for it. I forgot about the insurance fairy.

None of those are funded primarily at the federal level and our schools have been going downhill ever since the DoE was created. -
wat? where do you think the gov't will get the money to pay for the hospitals, docs, nurses, band-aids. the bureaucrats won't be working second jobs at 7-11, then will be collecting it in the form of higher taxes on businesses and individuals. The only differnce will be your accountant and tax attorney will make a larger share. Who did the ABA support for Pres again???
-
No, Mr. Galt, don't be talking crazy now!!! That health insurance will be free!!!! Free I tell ya!
-
wow, dude seriously? theyll prolly just tax employers. maybe even take some out of your paycheck... which sucks, i know, since you already have money taken out for your health insurance.

oh, wait. thats prolly exactly what theyll use.
only youll be paying for just health care... not health care + insurance/pharmaceutical company's profit. and you dont have to worry about deductibles and copays and prior-existing conditions not being covered or fuck, actually this kind of transplant is just too damn expensive and your coverage doesnt qualify. best of luck, though. -

insurance companies got the hold they have on america today because of government and to act like the system we have is the natural result of a free market is preposterous
why is healthcare the only field where you use "insurance" for normal check-ups?
