  2. Whiney fucking asshole. Are you paying the customer or is he paying you? You don't get to complain! cocksucker!
  3. Anything less than an 89% tip is completely unacceptable anytime, anyplace. I spend at least $20 at McDonald's for a McFlurry.
  4. not another waiter hates the world thread
  5. Go fuck yourself OP.
  6. I waited tables for 6 years and thought it was such a thankless job that was difficult and took skills. Then I joined the real world and realized what a joke it was and how easy the money is for the hours you put in. I still tip 20-30% though.
  7. I can't decide which I hate more; the annoying, arrogant, obnoxious and douchey customer or the waiter who thinks he should earn 35-100k a year taking orders and bringing people their food. The sense of entitlement in the service industry is equally obnoxious. Can we please remember that you have the absurdly simple job of a highschool dropout and you shouldn't be getting paid engineer money in the first place, PLEASE!.

    Coinflip imo.

  9. My gf is a waitress... the only thing she bitches about is her asshole managers and black people.
  10. yeah im not racist but i know many waiters who have turned racist because of tipping issues with african americans

No one expects to make "engineer money" in the service industry. They just expect that 20% that is accustomed. Most people in the service industry make about $3/hour because its assumed that the patrons arent shitbags and make up for the lack of hourly pay with their tips. If you cant afford to leave the 20% on top of your check then you cant afford to go out. Take your broke ass to Wendys.

    .

but no, please tell me about how someone who waits tables needs to make 50k a year.

excited for the next 20 page thread we can get going about this

---jasmith, when did 20% become accustomed? I pretty much leave that for anything that's not mediocre to below, but I'm pretty sure 15% was standard.

    LOL
I dont think op is bitching, it's just surprising how retarded many restaurant goers are. It's easy to handle in small doses but when every table acts like they've never been out to eat before it can really kill your mood.
  16. it's hard to support a family on a measly 15% tip!
  17. sf true. Whenever I go into a restaurant I look at the waiters and remind myself that I'm there to serve them and brighten their day.
  18. gotta love OT, yet another future 12 page thread on tipping.

whats that count now 4, 5?
  19. I'm pretty over tipping atm

Eh, 18% is really the standard in most places. Thats why added gratuity to parties is 18% in most restaurants. Servers usually have to tip out 3% so if they get an 18% tip they end up walking with 15%.

Just like a lot of things in life there are unwritten rules to going out to restaurants. Servers arent there because they enjoy it, they are there because its their job. You wouldnt go into someone elses job and and do things just to make their life harder, its not ok to do it at a restaurant either just because they are supposed to "serve" you. That kind of mindset makes you an asshole.
  21. Oh also... since my gf is a waitress herself, we end up over-tipping everywhere.

Its annoying. Cant remember the last time i left a tip smaller then like 25%.
  22. Any job where you have to deal with the general public is going to suck dick. For some reason people feel that because they are a paying customer, they are above you as an employee and they are entitled to some sort of special treatment. This is especially true for waiters/waitresses. I've seen some treated so poorly.

Whenever I am out to eat or just out at a store to pick up something, I go out of my way to be courteous to the staff. Most of them hate their job and don't need you making it worse with some sort of "I'm better than you" attitude. Of course if they come off with an attitude I will throw it back at them. I mean, I love nothing more than getting my money back for something, but I keep it polite until its time not to be. Some customer services bitches have it coming.

On the flip side OP....if thats the career you chose, thats the shit you gotta deal with.

Is it really that annoying? Whats the difference between a 20 and 25 percent tip? 1 dollar? 2 dollars? If that is enough money to be "annoying" then you probably dont have enough money to go out anyway.
  24. As a patron I've witnessed others treating waiters like just plain shit. You don't have to be chatty with them but at least treat them with decency. I just don't get the people who can't even be bothered to look up or listen to what the waiter has to say.

  25. true, but I also don't want to make small talk with my waiter/cab driver/barber/etc

    Settle down.

I also said no less then 25%. We wont leave less then $10. If our bill is $15, we leave $25. Thats not really annoying, its more of me being annoyed by my gf lol. Like if she knows the girl i somehow end up leaving her a $20 tip on a $30 bill.

I just started making her pay instead. A lot less annoying.
  29. I tip well pretty much all the time. You only have to qualify by meeting one of these 3 criteria. 1. You're an attractive young female 2. You do a good job. 3. I feel sorry for you being a server at your age.

Well thats a whole different issue then. I know what this is like, I know every bartender in my area (sad), and I tip way too much when I go out drinking because I know everyone. Makes me appreciate going somewhere new.
